It was definitely a happy Father’s Day in Oakland as the Oakland Athletics (42-29) avoided a sweep of the Seattle Mariners (31-39) and still making them the hottest team in the MLB.
It was the fourth time this season that the A’s had back-to-back home runs in a game and it helped catapult them to a win against the Mariners with a final score of 10-2.
The home runs came in the seventh inning from third baseman, Josh Donaldson, and then designated hitter, Seth Smith off of Seattle’s RHP, Blake Beavan (7.22 ERA). The seventh inning was a success after the two home runs as the A’s scored a total of four times giving them an 8-2 lead and setting up their starting pitcher, Bartolo Colon (9-2, 2.89 ERA), for his ninth win for the season.
Home runs kept coming as Brandon Moss recorded his 12th and Josh Reddick his third home run of the season in the eighth inning off of RHP Carter Capps (4.03 ERA).
“From the fourth inning on we seemed to be running to the bat rack,” said Reddick. “Once ever...

The Seattle Mariners are littered with good starting pitching prospects in their farm system. While everyone who follows baseball prospects will point to either Taijuan Walker, who is currently pitching for their Double-A team, Jackson Generals, or Danny Hultzen, who is currently with the Mariners Triple-A affiliate, the Tacoma Rainiers, but is on the 7-Day Disabled List, as the...
Hisashi Iwakuma is proving that King Felix isn’t the only notable pitcher in Seattle.
Everyone knows about Felix Hernandez. For the last decade-plus, he and Ichiro Suzuki have been the only reasons for Seattle Mariners fans to even bother watching their team. And with Ichiro now in New York with the Yankees, King Felix has become, from a casual fan’s perspective, not only...
The future is now
Mike Zunino has been making an impression for the last year in the Mariners fans heads, and now we get to see what he actually brings to the table.
In his first week he has made veteran catcher Kelly Shoppach expendable, taking over the every day catching duties leading to the DFA of Shoppach.
Earning the respect of a pitching staff has got to be one of the hardest...
Grant Green is doing everything he can to get a call-up to the major leagues. Originally drafted as a shortstop in the first round (13th overall) in the 2009 MLB Draft out of USC by the Oakland A’s, Green has made position changes throughout his minor league career, moving from shortstop to centerfield, and now more recently playing second base. In his one and a half season’s...
The Seattle Mariners held veteran Jason Bay out of their
series opener with the Los Angeles Angels yesterday due to a sore hamstring,
according to Greg Johns of MLB.com.
Bay would normally have been in the Mariners’ lineup against
left-handed starting pitcher Jason Vargas, but Seattle instead used Raul
Ibanez. Manager Eric Wedge told reporters that Bay felt his hamstring...
The Oakland Athletics have become a hot item in the AL West, as they have emerged into first place in the division. Oakland fans have been doing their trademark “Bernie Lean” with a bit more enthusiasm since the A’s three game sweep of the Yankees last week; however the Seattle Mariners might be the team to slow their roll.
The A’s have been flaunting their talented pitching...
Felix Hernandez is awesome. The A’s probably already knew that, but the fact was reinforced Saturday afternoon at the Oakland Coliseum. Hernandez shut out the A’s for seven innings as the A’s fell for the second straight game to the Seattle Mariners. With his usual assortment of low-90′s fastballs with late movement and a filthy slider, Hernandez cut through the A’s order...

A sewage problem with the 47-year-old Oakland Coliseum caused a backup that made the A's and Mariners dress in the same clubhouse, made Mariners manager Eric Wedge hold his presser in the hall instead of a foot of water in his office, and this apparently happens even when the team is on the road.
Too many people made trips to the bathroom during...
So, Bud Selig, about that whole Oakland A's moving to Santa Clara thing. Any chance we might be able to speed up the process? No rush or anything, but you might want to know that the O.co Coliseum, where the A's currently play, is flooded with raw sewage. That seems kind of relevant, no?
Yes, it is apparently an ugly sight at O.co right now as both the A's and the...
While Aaron Harang has experienced plenty of ups and downs, he was at his best during his last start.
He's never had any success against the Los Angeles Angels, though.
Harang aims for his first win in six tries against the Angels, who look to continue their home dominance of the Seattle Mariners in the first of four Monday night.
Acquired from Colorado in April, Harang (3...
A day removed from the O.Co Coliseum’s team clubhouse level turned into a scene from “Slumdog Millionaire,” higher-ups with the A’s are speaking out on the catastrophe, and the recurring theme: We’ve been to this poo-stained rodeo before.
Here’s owner Lew Wolff, via Carl Steward:
Wolff said this was just the latest issue of many the A’s have encountered with the Coliseum’s...
The A’s opened a pivotal four-game series in Arlington against the Rangers on Monday with an 8-7 loss.
Both starting pitchers were shaky on the night, as Dan Straily and Nick Tepesch were hit around and ultimately earned no decisions for their efforts.
A.J. Pierzynski banged a two-run home run off the foul pole in the second against Straily, putting Texas up 2-0. The next inning...
The Oakland Athletics have taken control of the AL West in part because of the Texas Rangers' struggles on their longest homestand of the season.
The A's will try to add to those woes while padding their advantage in a four-game series that begins Monday night.
Oakland trailed by one game in the division after Texas won the opener of an 11-game homestand last Monday. The...
Somebody look at Josh Reddick. Please. Swisher: Baseball or Faceball? For whatever it's worth: I think the Yankees should acquire Josh Reddick, shave him and waive him. The one-day shave and waive.
