Jake Peavy pitched a complete game for Boston on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. (AP photo Marcio Jose Sanchez) Jan-Christian Sorensen Contributing Writer To be honest, the Dodgers didn’t really get a fair Jake in the Game Three finale of the weekend series out in Los Angeles. Newly acquired hurler Jake Peavy was reminiscent of his 2007 Cy Young award-winning self Sunday night as he made his fifth start for the Sox and twirled eight innings of three-hit, one-run baseball, walking only one and striking out four in a 111-pitch, complete-game tour de force. With the victory — his second complete game of the season — Peavy (10-5, 4.25 ERA) moves to 14-2 lifetime against the Dodgers, and 7-1 in 13 career starts at Dodger Stadium, while the Sox improve to 77-55 on the season. It was the first series loss for Los Angeles since June, and the second consecutive series win for Boston since losing three in a row to Kansas City, Toronto and New York.  Los Angeles starter Chris C...

Your Morning Dump...where Jake Peavy leads the Sox to the series win

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Jake Peavy helped the team with the most series victories in the majors this season to take one from a club that hadn't lost one in 2½ months. Peavy pitched a three-hitter and the Boston Red Sox beat...

Jake Peavy Donates $3,600 to Jimmy Fund In Honor of Late Grandmother, Former Bullpen Coach

Jake Peavy managed to cool down the red-hot Dodgers, put the Red Sox back in first place and support a great cause all in one night. The right-hander pledged to donate $300 to the Jimmy Fund for every strikeout made by either the Red Sox or the Dodgers to support cancer research. Peavy made the pledge in recognition of his 300th major league start on Sunday, and in tribute to his...

Jake Peavy Continues to Boost Red Sox’ Thriving Rotation With Absolute Gem Against Dodgers

Jake Peavy has been as advertised since joining the Red Sox. Heck, he’s been better than advertised. The biggest gripe among those who opposed last month’s trade — aside from Boston losing Jose Iglesias — was that the Red Sox seemingly acquired a pitcher who fit a middle-of-the-rotation mold. In other words, he seemed a bit redundant in a rotation that already consisted of...

Peavy Goes Nine, Napoli Goes Nuts

How do you put the exclamation point on winning a series against the hottest team in the National League and the team you’re the odds-on favorite to meet in the World Series? If you’re Mike Napoli, whose beard is hand-crafted from the finest children’s nightmares, you blast a two run homer, then step back into the dugout with your fists raised up in the air and screaming something...

Peavy Dominates Dodgers; Sox Mash Again, 8-1

(Photo by Victor Decolongon/Getty Images)Your 2013 Carmine Hose just handed the "mighty" Dodgers their first series loss since Mid-June. Most of the credit for that last night goes to Jake Peavy, who delivered a complete game three-hitter in the 8-1 rubber match win over LA. Peavy's bull-dog attitude is refreshingly different from most starters—for example, there...

Peavy stingy as BoSox blow out LA

Jake Peavy pitched a complete-game three-hitter and the Boston Red Sox beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-1 Sunday night, becoming the first team to win a series from the NL West leaders in 2 1/2 months.

Boston Red Sox finish West Coast trip in style against Dodgers

In one of their most exciting series of the year with so much swirling around the big Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers trade from the last August, Boston got the edge this time around. Pitching for the Red Sox dominated the series as John Lackey, Jon Lester and Jake Peavy all turned in solid performances as Boston took two out of three from the Dodgers in their first trip...

Shut Down Kings

The Red Sox spend the better part of August on the road, so I really wasn’t expecting a 28-0 month out of them. And at 10-11 so far on the month, they’re playing at about the clip I’d figured. What’s more alarming are the thin margins they’re losing games by, coupled with the offense’s maddening propensity to get shut down. So far in August, the Sox have lost seven games...

Red Sox end solid trip with Dodgers drubbing

It was a perfectly fitting anniversary. One year after being the centerpiece of a megatrade that helped reshape two franchises Adrian Gonzalez homered into the center field bleachers before making a diving catch at first base for the Dodgers here last night. And then the Red Sox won. In fact the Sox won easily 8-1 behind a masterful 111-pitch complete game from Jake Peavy and wrapped...

Red Sox-Dodgers Live: Jake Peavy Gets Nod As Sox Battle Dodgers in Big Rubber Match

5:45 p.m.: David Ortiz will be out of the Red Sox’ lineup for the second straight day. Mike Napoli, who continues to deal with plantar fasciitis, will play first base and bat cleanup. Xander Bogaerts collected his first major league hit in Saturday’s win. He’ll get the start on Sunday with a left-hander toeing the rubber for Los Angeles. Sunday’s complete lineups are below...

Your Morning Dump...where the rotation is carrying the team

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. With 30 games remaining this season, the rotation could be what propels the team into the postseason for the first time since 2009. “To me, that’s the difference with this team, our pitching,” second...

Orioles-Red Sox Preview

After taking an interleague series from baseball's hottest team, the AL East-leading Boston Red Sox look like they could make a deep postseason run. A playoff berth is less certain for the Baltimore Orioles, but the next week and a half could go a long way toward determining their postseason aspirations. The Orioles open a difficult nine-game road trip Tuesday night against...

Game 132: Red Sox vs. Dodgers - Will Carl eat his words? We hope so!

Scott Levesque Managing Editor Well what do you know. It looks like Jon Lester has decided to awaken from his slumber and show Red Sox fans why he's still the "Ace" on this team.  Once again, Lester pitched a gem when the Red Sox needed him the most, leading the Sox to a 4-2 win over the hottest team in the ML, the Dodgers. Now Farrell turns to the team's key acquisition ...
