Allen Webster (see my January article on him here) finally got his first win of his career on Thursday afternoon, and the night time fireworks coundn't have been more appropriate. Webster pitched six innings, giving up two runs in a quality start that he has been waiting his whole career for. Boston bats fully supported Webster's cause, gathering 18 hits over the course of the eight innings.
1) So what? So let's dance! Bottom of the first inning, and Boston starts the game with three straight hits. Jacoby Ellsbury singles, Shane Victorino doubles, and then Dustin Pedroia takes a 2-2 curveball to the left field line to double and score Ellbury and Victorino. 2-0 Sox.
2)Rookie Buzz Everyone has been talking about Jose Iglesias's great start, and all Jose keeps doing is raking. The bottom of the fourth starts with a Mike Napoli single, then after starter Eric Stults gets the next two outs, Ryan Lavarnway singles to put t...

It took five starts, but Red Sox rookie pitcher Allen Webster finally earned his first major league win as Boston downed the Padres 8-2.
Webster, one of the players acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers in last year’s blockbuster deal that sent Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford, Josh Beckett and Nick Punto to LA said, “It’s a huge relief, just a...
Were you one of the Boston Red Sox fans that detested the signing of Shane Victorino? Were you one of those people who thought the Red Sox overpaid for him, or he was past his prime and could no longer provide a good bat and excellent defense in the outfield? If you were, then you were absolutely wrong. The Red Sox are 85 games into the 2013 season and Victorino is having...
The Red Sox find themselves in first place with the All-Star break fast approaching, but that doesn’t mean they will be passive at the trade deadline.
The bullpen is one area where Boston may look for some help due to recent struggles in the closer position. An additional position player, as well as another starter now that Clay Buchholz‘s injury continues to linger, could also...
The Boston Red Sox were hoping to have shortstop Stephen Drew back in the lineup on Friday, but it appears now that Saturday is more likely. MLB.com's Michael Periatt reports that Drew will sit out again on Friday due to tightness in his right hamstring but could play on Saturday at the Los Angeles Angels.
Drew exited the game on June 28 early and has not played since. So...

It was another one of those "everyone hits" game, as 8 starting Sox' batters recorded two or more hits in the 8-2 victory over the Padres. The only one to record only one hit was Brandon Snyder, though it was a solo homer for his first of the season. So, we can excuse him for getting only one hit.
It will take all afternoon to breakdown...
If it’s a special day in America, it’s a special day at the ballpark, and this Independence Day is no exception.
The Red Sox will be wearing white Stars and Stripes caps for their afternoon game against the Padres on Thursday. Tributes are also in line at Fenway Park.
While a full view of the new headwear will be available in just a couple of hours as the Sox take the field,...
The buzz is back at Fenway Park.
The Red Sox have an American League-leading 51-34 record so far this season, and the team is showing no signs of slowing. Their momentum is due, in part, to the depth on the Sox roster. There have been peaks and valleys, but it’s been hard to pinpoint one player on the roster who has single-handedly carried the team.

It seems interleague play in Major League Baseball hasn’t run its course yet.
Fans still tune in to see the unique matchups that interleague play offers, even after 16 years. Interleague play was first introduced in 1997, and it gives both players and fans alike to see World Series-style matchups from their favorite teams — even those that may struggle to get to the grand finale...
After uncertainty surrounding Clay Buccholz's recovery and estimated timetable for return, clarity may be coming. Buccholz, who is recovering from right shoulder bursitis, has had trouble getting over the rehab hump, but now he is feeling better. Buccholz may be returning after just one rehab start.
Evan Drelich of MassLive.com says Buccholz threw from 100 feet on flat...
Pinch-hitter Jonny Gomes homered leading off the ninth inning to lift the Boston Red Sox to a 2-1 win over the suddenly offensively challenged San Diego Padres on Wednesday night.
Mike Carp had two hits and scored a run for Boston, which is 7-1 on its nine-game homestand that concludes Thursday against the Padres.
Carlos Quentin went 3 for 4 with a double and two singles for the...
Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
Jonny Gomes gets a lot of praise for being a "good clubhouse guy." But after Wednesday night's pinch-hit walk-off home run at Fenway Park in a 2-1 win over the San Diego Padres, Gomes should probably...
Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley has his own form of baseball vernacular. Words like "high cheese", "electric gas", "hair" and "iron" all seem to make their way into an Eck conversation. But it was in 1993 that Eckersley coined a phrase that is universally used across baseball now: the walk-off.
Does it seem like...
College football is demanding on 18-22 year olds, especially at the division one level and even moreso at the BCS level. However, despite being the starting quarterback at one of the best programs in the country, Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel has decided to sign with the Boston Red Sox.
Though not unheard of, Driskel will be taking a chance in stunting his football development...
After their most successful homestand in more than three years, the Boston Red Sox will begin a 1o-game West Coast road trip on Friday against the Los Angeles Angels.
Felix Doubront will get the nod in the series opener, and he will need to have his best stuff in order to slow down an Angels team that has won eight of its last nine games.
The Sox are coming off a hot streak of their...
