Diamondbacks Central:
Trailing by three runs going into the final two innings against the defending World Series champs, the Diamondbacks had their work cut out for them, but a four-run rally in the eighth inning and a perfect ninth from Kevin Mulvey gave Arizona 4-3 win for their first of the Cactus League schedule.
Konrad Schmidt got the rally started with a leadoff home run off Giants pitcher Jose Casilla and then Juan Miranda would tie the score at three a piece on a two-run double. Tony Abreu would then give Arizona a lead on a RBI single to score Miranda.
Things went about as bad as they could for the D’Backs for the first seven innings in the Sunday afternoon slate. Starter Matt Cain and four other San Francisco pitchers combined to hold Arizona scoreless for the first seven innings with only seven hits. Russell Branyan had two of the seven hits.
Arizona pitchers had their struggles as well in the first couple of innings. Ian Kennedy gave up four hits and two runs in his two innings of work...
