Francisco Rodriguez has accepted the Milwaukee Brewers’ salary arbitration offer, guaranteeing two things in Milwaukee. First, the Brew Crew will have a dominant 1-2 combination at the back end of the bullpen, but more importantly, this move all but guarantees that Prince Fielder will sign with a new team this offseason.
The move is surprising on many fronts. I am not at all shocked that the Brewers offered Rodriguez arbitration, because by doing so, had he signed with another team, then Milwaukee would have received two premium first round picks in the 2012 MLB First Year Player Draft. You have to believe that is what they were hoping for, at least on some level.
I am also a bit surprised that Rodriguez accepted the offer, as he voiced his opinion strongly last season about not being happy about not receiving save opportunities. Now, he is saying that he is fine in a set up role for team closer John Axford.
That is, unless the Brewers decide to trade Rodriguez, who, at approx...

Winter Meetings Day 3: More Rumors
Things are starting to heat up on the Prince Fielder front, now that it appears Albert Pujols is down to 3 teams (the Cardinals, Angels and a mystery team). Although Jon Heyman tweeted yesterday that the Cubs' interest in Prince Fielder is sincere and Fielder is apparently interested in the Cubs, Cubs' GM Jed Hoyer told Paul Sullivan that the Cubs' pursuit of Fielder...

The Winter Meetings started Monday in the deep heart of Texas, and the Orioles along with the other 29 teams in the sport are conducting business for next year. Right now, Baltimore needs pitching, pitching and more pitching as Buck Showalter and Dan Duquette have stated to the masses during the past few days.
As most everyone in the media has stated, the Orioles will be trying...
Are The Cubs The Favorite To Land Prince Fielder?
With Albert Pujols all locked up and taking his talents to Southern California, Prince Fielder is now the biggest name left out on the free agent market.
Obviously, there are plenty of other names out there to be had, like Jimmy Rollins, but none come with the impact that Prince could potentially bring to a big league lineup.
Despite the way-past-his-prime Peter Gammons tweeting...
Poll: Where Will Prince Fielder Sign?
With Albert Pujols now off the market, Prince Fielder is the biggest free agent still available. It's been a hard market to gauge for Fielder --- a quick look at the big man's MLBTR page shows several teams with an interest, but seemingly just as many posts arguing why those same teams are seemingly shying away from giving Fielder the eight- or nine-year, $200MM contract...
Cubs Going to Make a Serious Run At Prince Fielder
The Chicago Cubs were lukewarm on Albert Pujols because of his age not fitting in with the plan. The Cubs are reportedly more hot on Prince Fielder due to his age, and plan on making a serious run at the big man from Milwaukee according to a tweet by Buster Olney.
I’ve said a few times that the Cubs shouldn’t make a run at Prince unless it’s a 5 year contract. I...
Keeping an eye on the Prince

Everybody who cares about the Red Sox, even the tiniest bit, should be paying close attention to Prince Fielder's free agency. Because, right now, it's looking more than likely that he's not only going to wind up in the American League, but possibly the American League East.
How does a 1-2 punch of Jose Bautista and Prince...
Recapping Day 1 of the Winter Meetings for the Nationals
Despite their desire to make a big splash at the meetings, the Washington Nationals were no where to be found on Day 1 of the MLB Winter Meetings. Unless you count conflicting rumors flying off the handle about the teams interest in CJ Wilson, Mark Buehrle, Prince Fielder, and even Albert Pujols. Here's what we know about the Nats after one day of negotiating.

Milwaukee Brewer UPDATES
“Anybody that’s still a free agent is a possibility.”
Those are the words of Milwaukee Brewer General Manager Doug Melvin a day after reliever Francisco Rodriguez accepted arbitration. The concern of most Brewer fans last night was with the addition of K-Rod, there would be no money left to sign third baseman Aramis Ramirez or any other player of significant importance...
Ramirez is worth the pitch for Brewers
Signing Aramis Ramirez won't compensate for losing Prince Fielder, but it's about as close as the Brewers are going to come in making up for that hole blown in the middle of their order.
