Fransisco Rodriguez has been charged with one count of domestic abuse. The free agent reliever got into an alleged scuffle with his fiancee in September. He faces up to nine months in prison and $10,000 in fines if convicted. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the Waukesha County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call from Rodriguez’s residence about 2:40 a.m. on Sept. 17. There they found Rodriguez’s 23-year-old girlfriend hiding in a closet. She told them Rodriguez, with whom she has a child, struck her in the head with his fist, then kicked her on the ground before dragging her to a car and driving around the neighborhood while continuing an argument. Rodriguez informed the deputies that his girlfriend had become upset when he said she could not accompany him on the Brewer’s trip to Pittsburgh. Rodriguez says that the two pushed each other and argued. Three days later the victim said the whole incident was her fault, and denied that Rodriguez had caused her injuries. The ...

Brewers reliever Loe becomes free agent

The Milwaukee Brewers continue to take the initial steps in rebuilding their shaky bullpen from a year ago.The club announced Thursday that reliever Kameron Loe has refused an assignment to Triple-A and will become a free agent. This comes a day after the Brewers parted ways with reliever Jose Veras. In additional roster shuffling, first baseman Travis Ishikawa was outrighted to...

Brewers outright Morgan to minors

The Milwaukee Brewers have outrighted outfielder Nyjer Morgan to Triple-A Nashville. Morgan hit .304 while helping Milwaukee win the NL Central in 2011, but slumped to .239 this year and the Brewers failed to make the playoffs. He is a .280 career hitter over six seasons with Pittsburgh, Washington and Milwaukee. Milwaukee also announced Thursday that right-hander Jose Veras declined...

Report: Brewers to outright Jose Veras

Wanting to revamp a bullpen that struggled mightily last season, the Milwaukee Brewers appear to be in the process of taking the first step by parting ways with Jose Veras.MLB.com reported Wednesday that the Brewers will outright the 32-year old reliever off the 40-man roster, likely making him a free agent. If Veras would clear waivers, he would almost certainly elect free agency...

Brewers' Morgan turns down Triple-A option

Outfielder Nyjer Morgan, who was postseason hero for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2011, was sent outright by the club to Class AAA Nashville and will declare his free agency instead. Morgan, 32, fell into a deep slump this season and batted only .239 in 289 at-bats while ceding the No. 1 job in center field to OF Carlos Gomez. Acquired from the Washington Nationals in a spring training...

Brewers begin bullpen overhaul

The Milwaukee Brewers' primary goal this winter will be rebuilding a bullpen that ranked last in the majors in three important categories: earned-run average (4.66), blown saves (29) and losses (33). There was some natural attrition with the free agency of setup man Francisco Rodriguez and long reliever Livan Hernandez. The Brewers had no intention of trying to resign either...

Brewers Free Agent Fornication Set To Begin

Despite what Tyler Maas said the other day, how awesome is it that the season is over? I AM SO HAPPY! No more dreaming of impossible scenarios that won't happen, no more Brewers bullpen doing Brewers bullpen thing, no more Cardinals, no more Barry Zito, no more MLB Betting, no more Prince Fielder used to be a Brewer and no more stupid teams in the stupid World Series. I'm...

Miller Park Views: A Comparison

One can find reviews for stadiums on sites like Yelp and other resources on the Internet.  But those reviews are not always from actual sports fans.  StadiumJourney.com is a website that reviews stadiums all over the world, and does a pretty thorough and productive job doing it.  I assessed their review of Miller Park, home of the Brewers since 2001, and found that while I had...

Risky Long Shots: Nyjer Morgan

Nyjer Morgan elected for Free Agency today after declining a placement to Triple A (he was removed from the 40 man last year). If the price is right, and I’m talking minor league contract right, I think the Mets should take a risk on Nyjer Morgan.   The Mets OF ended up being a revolving door last year with players not grasping the opportunity of other players failing to play...

Reliever Rodriguez charged with domestic abuse

In light of an alleged incident with his fiancé in September, free agent relief pitcher Francisco Rodriguez on Wednesday was charged with one count of domestic abuse. Patch.com in Waukesha County reported the misdemeanor could cost Rodriguez as much as nine months in prison and a $10,000 fine. His first court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 12. Records say the alleged incident...

Every plan revolves around Shaun Marcum

Now is the time when people come up with their master plans for what will and won’t fix the team of their choosing. Of course, for me, that is the Twins, so I pay close attention to what everyone else has to say. I don’t have any free agent optimism, but everyone from Parker Hageman to Phil Mackey do. And they all believe that Shaun Marcum, formerly of the Blue Jays and Brewers...

A Frightful Reality: Gold Glove Awards Officially Bunk

Not that this is breaking, shocking news, but the Gold Glove Awards are now officially stupid, dumb and just not worth anyone’s time.  As Todd Rosiak mentions in the JS, the Brewers failed once again to win a Gold Glove Award (or the Gold Glove Awards failed them, which is probably the better phrase).  Not one Gold Glove since 1982 (Robin Yount), holy cannoli, that is insane...

Brian Goodwin's solo home run nearly hit someone...

So the Arizona Fall League's Rising Stars Game is tonight (box here). Brian Goodwin, the Nationals OF prospect who just might keep the Nats from going after FA Michael Bourne, hit a solo home run to lead off the first inning for the AFL East squad. (We'll see what Scott Boras has to say about that.) Goodwin's solo shot came thisclose to hitting a woman and her kid who...
