– Shorts stop Stephen Drew has been drawing interest from the Tigers, Red Sox and Yankees according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports. The Yankees' interest in Drew though, isn't to replace Jeter, but to be a part-time player “I'm not looking to replace Derek Jeter,” General Manager Brian Cashman said. “He'll be playing every day for the whole year.” – Veteran slugger Lance Barkman hasn't decided whether he'll retire or not, and in the meantime, the Red Sox, Phillies, Rays and Astros have been kicking the tires on him writes Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle. “I'm waiting to be blown away by an offer,” Berkman said. “If somebody comes in and makes a deal that I can't refuse, then I have to take it and go forward. That may not happen — and if it doesn't, I'm fine.” He also said that he'd like to sign a two-year deal. Image by dremiel under the Creative Commons License Agreement.

A Brandon McCarthy Thought Experiment

You’re familiar with the term “contract year” because there exists a belief that some players perform better the season before they hit free agency. Playing for a new contract allegedly serves as a motivator. Obviously, pre-free-agency performance matters, and the most recent performance matters the most. A player should want to go into free agency on a high note. A player...

A mere seventy days after his teammates wondered whether the life, never mind the career of Brandon McCarthy had just ended in front of them, The San Francisco Chronicle reports that McCarthy has recuperated sufficiently for his doctor, Dr. Michael Collins,  director of the Sports Medicine Concussion Program at the University of Pittsburgh to clear him to return to playing baseball...

Your Thanksgiving Dump... where the Sox sign Gomes

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Likewise, the role for Gomes remained unclear. A part...

Wednesday’s early morning post is usually a debatable topic you and your buddies can discuss at the water cooler at work today. I have ulterior motives for today’s topic, which will be explained later in the post… Today, we discuss five current athletes that may be the best ever at their respective position. I say position loosely because it’s not necessarily applicable for...
