Found October 29, 2012 on The Outside Corner: Yardbarker Blogger Network
The Chicago White Sox shattered all expectations coming into 2012, and they nearly crept into the playoffs after the heavily favored Detroit Tigers struggled for most of the season. But you know what happened in late September and October: the White Sox fell apart, the Tigers won the division, and eventually, the AL pennant. It'll be an interesting offseason for the White Sox, that's for sure. Needs Jake Peavy and Kevin Youkilis both have club options for 2013. Peavy's will be declined (and the White Sox will look to bring him back at a cheaper salary), while the jury is still out on Youkilis's option, but I'd expect that to be declined as well. Reliever Brett Myers, acquired from the Astros at the deadline, also has a club option, and I'd expect him to be as good as gone too. The team could also use a second baseman if they're fed up with the struggles of Gordon Beckham, who is a nontender candidate heading into his first year of arbitration. With ...

Peavy gets two-year ChiSox deal

One of the most sought-after pitchers in baseball won't be hitting the open market after all. Four days before teams start bidding on free agents from other teams, the Chicago White Sox announced Tuesday that they have signed Jake Peavy to a two-year, $29-million contract extension. The deal replaces what would have been a $22 million club option for 2013; the White Sox instead...

Peavy, White Sox agree to $29 million, 2-year deal

Pitcher Jake Peavy and the Chicago White Sox agreed Tuesday to a $29 million, two-year contract. The right-hander will receive $14.5 million in each of the next two seasons. Peavy could receive a $15 million option for 2015, depending on innings during the next two years. Peavy's previous deal included a $22 million option for next season with a $4 million buyout. The buyout...

Chicago White Sox: Jake Peavy gets $29 million extension

The Chicago White Sox were busy on Tuesday, as they made several big personnel moves. They exercised the option on pitcher Gavin Floyd, while declining those on Kevin Youkilis and Brett Myers. But the big news came as they signed starting pitcher Jake Peavy to a two-year, $29 million extension. The 31-year-old Peavy finished the 2012 season with and 11-12 record, a 3.37 ERA and a...

White Sox Re-Sign Jake Peavy for $2/29M

Faced with a $22 million team option for 2013 or paying Jake Peavy a $4 million buyout and letting him hit free agency, the White Sox went with Door #3; re-sign him to an extension that lowers his annual payout but keeps him in Chicago through 2014 and gives them a team option for 2015. The new deal is worth $29 million guaranteed, with a few million of that likely being a buyout...

White Sox, Peavy agree to extension

There goes one free agent pitcher off the market: the Chicago White Sox and Jake Peavy have agreed to a two year extension that will pay Peavy $29 million over the two years. The deal also has an option for the 2015 season. Peavy made $17 million last season, and Chicago declined a $22 million club option on him for 2013. According to MLBTR, Peavy will make $14.5 million in each...

Ozzie Guillen - Luckiest Bigot in Baseball

Before last season, the Miami Marlins signed Ozzie Guillen to a four year, $10 million dollar contract. In return, he alienated his own fans by praising Fidel Castro, he alienated his own players by telling everyone that Giancarlo Stanton was the only reason for fans to show up, and he lead the team to one of the most disappointing seasons in team history. His reward for this terrific...

White Sox, Peavy agree to two-year, $29 million deal

The first order of business for new Chicago White Sox general manager Rick Hahn was to retain a key piece of the team's rotation. The White Sox and right-hander Jake Peavy agreed to a two-year, $29 million deal Tuesday. The team previously announced it was declining a $22 million option on Peavy for the 2013 season. The Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times both reported...

White Sox Extend Jake Peavy for Two More Years

It was unclear if Jake Peavy would return to Chicago next season.  The White Sox did not seem certain that they would pick up his option for the 2013 season, so the thought was they would allow him to enter free agency.  However, yesterday the team extended Peavy for two more seasons. According to Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune, the White Sox gave Peavy $29 million for...

Your Morning Dump...where White Sox moves could affect the Red Sox

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. It didn't take long for Rick Hahn to make his first move as the general manager of the White Sox. Four days after officially introducing Hahn as GM, the team announced a two-year, $29MM contract extension...

Dugout Digest - signings!

Happy Halloween, everyone. Yesterday, we had our first signings of the offseason. Of course, both were technically contract extensions since the free agency exclusivity window doesn't end until Saturday, but they count. Jake Peavy re-upped with the White Sox for two years, and Brandon League got paid by the Dodgers over three. The Gold Glove winners were also announced, if that...
