ST. LOUIS Cardinals third baseman David Freese is heading to Kansas City.
Major League Baseball announced Thursday afternoon that the 2011 postseason hero won the National League's Final Vote campaign and has been added to the team for next week's All-Star Game at Kauffman Stadium.
Freese held off the Braves' Michael Bourn and the Nationals' Bryce Harper thanks to a strong internet push from St. Louis fans that included votes at MLB.com, through text message and on Twitter.
The first-year All-Star is certainly deserving, entering Thursday night's game against the Colorado Rockies hitting .285 with 13 home runs and 50 RBI. He burst onto the national scene last fall, winning both the NLCS and World Series MVP.
Freese was announced as one of the five candidates for the final spot on the National League team on Sunday afternoon. He trailed Braves third baseman Chipper Jones before the future Hall of Famer was added as an injury replacement.
