The Reds have brought back a former prospect, one who was at least well known within Reds prospect circles, Wirfin Obispo. He was a big talked about name when he was dominating for the Dominican Summer League Reds in his first year as a pitcher. However he was caught up in a marriage scandal and was unable to gain a work visa for the United States and headed to Japan after the 2006 season. He only threw one inning in 2007, missed all of 2008 and was dominant in 2009. In 2010, his strikeout rate dropped off significantly and his walk rate doubled. He then missed almost all of the 2011 season. It is an interesting story that would be great if he could make it to the US one day and pitch in the big leagues.
