Recap: Buchholz steps up again, Sox win 3-2

For a couple of weeks we've been discussing how Clay Buchholz has been morphing into the ace of the Red Sox staff.  Well, consider the transformation complete.  In a must-win game (let's be honest, they're all must-win at this point), with the bullpen in desperate need of some rest, Clay told everybody, "Sit down.  I got this." Clay pitched a complete game...

Clay Shows Ace Form in Complete Game Win!

The Red Sox had lost 3 games in a row and needed a great outing from Clay Buchholz more than ever.  Buchholz did just that and once again looked like he might actually be the ace of the rotation.  Buchholz not only pitched well, he pitched a complete two hit game in the win over the Tribe.  Buchholz gave up a run early when he gave up a solo HR to Asdrubal Cabrera in the 2nd...

Clay Buchholz stakes his claim as the Boston Red Sox top starter

Clay Buchholz was magnificent on Friday night staking his claim as the Red Sox number one starter There have been very few things to be happy about as a Boston Red Sox fan this season. In fact, I can count the number of things on one hand: The emergence of Will Middlebrooks as a legitimate MLB ready player has expedited a mini-youth movement for the Boston Red Sox. Granted, the...

Red Sox Dwindling Playoff Hopes Rest Squarely on Right Arm of Budding Ace Clay Buchholz

Editor's note: NESN.com is going to tell the story of the 2012 Red Sox in Bobby Valentine’s words. Each game day, we will select the best Valentine quote that sums up the day for the Red Sox. It's impossible for a pitcher to carry the load for any team, mainly because playing once every five days doesn't have quite the same impact as that of a positional player. But...

Red Sox News & Notes - 8/11

Normally when Clay Buchholz throws a gem like he did last night, we would start off with that. But as happy as we are about the outing from Buchholz and the fact that the Boston Red Sox beat the Cleveland Indians 3-2, the news isn't all cute puppies and kittens. It looks as though the Red Sox will go through the rest of the 2012 season without their third baseman Will Middlebrooks...

Buchholz dominant in Red Sox win over Indians

CLEVELAND -- No one was more impressed than Cleveland Indians manager Manny Acta. He made that clear after Boston's Clay Buchholz dominated Cleveland's lineup with a two-hit complete game in the Red Sox's 3-2 victory Friday night. "That's the best game I've seen pitched against us all year and it wasn't even a shutout," Acta said. Buchholz...

Buchholz, Ross Stop the Bleeding...For Now

Clay Buchholz continued to be the saving grace of an underperforming starting pitching staff with a 2-hit, complete game performance in a 3-2 Red Sox win over the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field. The victory snapped a 3-game losing streak for Boston and pulled the team to within 2 games of .500.Buchholz (pictured) allowed a 1st inning home run to Asdrubal Cabrera and then allowed...

Your Morning Dump... Where we have more praise for Clay

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Here’s a novel idea: Rather than relying on turnarounds from erstwhile aces Josh Beckett [stats] and Jon Lester [stats], maybe the Red Sox [team stats] should just clone Clay Buchholz. At this point, it may...

Cody Ross, Red Sox 'Have a Ton of Confidence' in Their Pitchers, Need Them to Get Hot (Video)

Clay Buchholz held up his end of the bargain on Friday night. Now it's the rest of the rotation's turn. After twirling a complete-game two-hit gem on Friday night and stopping Boston's losing streak at three games, Buchholz has now gone at least seven innings in each of his last five starts with a 1.15 ERA over that span. If even a bit of Buchholz's success rubs off...

Red Sox 3, Indians 2

Clay Buchholz pitched a two-hitter, Cody Ross hit a two-run homer, and the Boston Red Sox broke a three-game losing streak by beating the Cleveland Indians 3-2 on Friday night. Buchholz (10-3) gave up one earned run in his second complete game of the season and fifth of his career. The right-hander improved to 8-2 in 17 starts following a loss the last two years. Ross broke a 1...

Red Sox Live Blog: Scott Podsednik Returns to Outfield as Clay Buchholz Looks to Shutdown Indians

5:45 p.m.: It looks like Felix Doubront is going to be shut down, but not for good. Bobby Valentine told reporters in Cleveland on Friday that the 24-year-old starter will be skipped over in the rotation for his next scheduled start, in favor of Aaron Cook. Cook hasn't started since a dominant win over the Rangers on Monday and likely won't take the hill again until next...

Red Sox Live Blog: Franklin Morales Looking to Keep Up Sox' Winning Ways Against Indians

8 a.m: Clay Buchholz did all he could and maybe some more in getting the Red Sox out of their three-game slide on Friday night. But as the day turns anew, the ball will be handed to Franklin Morales to try and keep Boston's playoff dreams alive. Morales, who seems to be a lock to be in the Sox rotation from this point forward, was impressive in his last outing on Sunday against...

Hernandez closing in on joining Indians

s The Indians have had trouble synchronizing their hitting and pitching all season, and it happened again Friday night. Lefty Chris Seddon gave the Indians a rare quality start, but the offense was held to two hits -- both by Asdrubal Cabrera -- in a 3-2 loss to Boston. Seddon pitched six innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits. It was his second start ...
