The San Francisco Giants' press release announcing the trade sending Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez east in exchange Angel Pagan disclosed that the Mets are on the hook for either another player to be named later, or cash. This is news to Mets fans who were mostly in agreement that this was an attractive trade by Sandy Alderson. While its a bit annoying that its taken several days to learn of these details, there is no information with regards to who that player might be, or how much money the team could be liable for. Just a guess, but I would assume that this wouldn't include and impact prospect or only a few hundred thousand dollars.

Torres needs a RHB caddy...

This is not a bash Andres Torres post, there seem to be plenty of those going around since the trade. Ramon Ramirez makes the trade a win in my opinion but after watching Pagan defensively last season, an upgrade in center field works for me. Sure Pagan is a better career hitter but how much of his offense is off-set by his horrible play in the field last year.So based on the little...

What The Mets Didn’t Tell You About Pagan Trade…

Amazing… No mention of this detail until today. I guess Mets fans are not on a need to know basis under this very covert front office operation. I investigated Rubin’s claim and here are the Mets and Giants versions of the Press Release: The distortion and smokescreen with the Mets continues, and some prefer to believe Reyes’ version of events over the Mets who...

Video: Ramon Ramirez Beans Shane Victorino

Probably the gem of the Angel Pagan trade, the Mets acquired relief pitcher Ramon Ramirez. Since the 2008 season, Ramirez has appeared in no less than 66 games and maintained an ERA under 3.00 for the duration.Ramirez, who will like serve as the Mets seventh inning man, is a power pitcher who averaged 8.7 strikeouts per nine innings pitched last season. Having blown 21 games last...

Giants Deal Torres, Ramirez for Pagan

Early in the week, rumors started heating up that the Giants were trying to move Jeff Keppinger, Andres Torres and reliever Ramon Ramirez. On Tuesday night, they got two-thirds of the way to making that a reality, as San Francisco dealt Ramirez and Torres to the Mets for outfielder Angel Pagan. Pagan is younger than Torres, and likely has more offensive upside, though both players...

PAGAN? HE GONE AND THE REBUILT BULLPEN

Well, if nothing else, Rauch and Francisco won’t tolerate much ********! Well, the Mets won’t be coming home from Dallas empty handed. Maybe they are not the most sexy moves Mets fans wanted but they are practical, kind of like getting an iron or power tool for Christmas.  Let’s take a gander at the transaction shall we: Angel Pagan to the Giants for Andres Torres and...

Torres makes Endy a less-likely acquisition

Andy Martino of the Daily News and Adam Rubin of ESPN believe it is now less likely the Mets sign free-agent OF Endy Chavez, since the team just acquired Andres Torres from the Giants. The Mets reportedly met with the agents for Chavez, Cesar Izturis, and Ronny Cedeno earlier this week in Dallas. In 83 games for the Rangers in 2011, Chavez hit .301 with a .323 on base percentage...

Mets send CF Angel Pagan to SF, sign 2 relievers

Walking across the hotel lobby, New York Mets manager Terry Collins smiled.

Excited Torres believes he can help Mets

Upon receiving word of his trade to New York earlier this week, outfielder Andres Torres thought immediately of his father, a lifelong Mets fan.

2011 Winter Meetings wrap-up

Baseball’s annual Winter Meetings are over. No more TV cameras trolling the lobby at the Anatole Hilton in Dallas. No more drunk reporters hanging out in the bar fantasizing about married life. No more fake scoops by insecure beat writers to one up each other. (OK, that last one probably isn’t true. They’ll still be doing that.) The San Francisco Giants didn’...

Giants hit the $130M ceiling: Like it or not, they’re not the Yankees (or Marlins!)

-One way to look at it: The Giants have failed to add a truly significant bat up to this point of the winter, and what they’ve added doesn’t look like it will change much about the worst offense in baseball. Melky Cabrera? Angel Pagan? Not largely different than what the Giants put out... Continue reading...

Mets make multiple moves to restructure roster

DALLAS — In a rapid-fire series of moves at the winter meetings, the New York Mets agreed to trade center fielder Angel Pagan to San Francisco for outfielder Andres Torres and pitcher Ramon Ramirez, and reached agreements with free agent relievers Frank Francisco and Jon Rauch. Francisco, 32, had 17 ...

Mets’ Moves Show They Are Moving On After Losing a Star

Despite having Jose Reyes sign with the Marlins, the Mets have upgraded their bullpen and brought in center fielder Andres Torres from the Giants.
