Friday, it became known that the Pirates and Jose Tabata had agreed to an extension that could keep Tabata in Pittsburgh until 2019. The Pirates finally made the deal official today and the full terms of the deal are now disclosed:
2011: $500,000 plus a $1 million signing bonus
2012: $750,000
2013: $1 million
2014: $3 million
2015: $4 million
2016: $4.5 million
2017: Club option for $6.5 million ($250,000 buyout)*
2018: Club option for $7.5 million ($250,000 buyout)*
2019: Club option for $8.5 million ($250,000 buyout)*
*Tabata will receive a $250,000 buyout for each option year not exercised, thus bringing his total guaranteed money of the deal to $15.5 million.
