"But there are different roles at each place and Scott is deciding which is the best option for him." source ESPN NY So the Yanks could probably outbid the Mets but would only be offering a part-time role, while the Mets could offer anywhere from a platoon situation to a starters job.Hairston should be in line for a contract similar to Jonny Gomes' two years for 10 M but the NY Post believes that he may have to settle for a one year deal.Adam Rubin reported today that the Yanks were pessimistic about their chances of landing him because of the role they could offer. Then later in the evening Jon Heyman tweeted that the Yanks didn't appear in on Hairston at the moment. Of course, the Yanks could be backing off Hairston because they found a better match to pursue for their bench position, with the Nats signing Adam LaRoche it's believed they have made Michael Morse available. Morse is a right handed power hitting part-time corner outfielder/ first baseman and DH. Morse could be a perfect fit for the Yankees, and not only because he would balance the roster. He can play the outfield and first base, he could form the right-handed part of a designated hitter platoon. And he is only signed through 2013 ($6.75 million), which fits snugly with the team’s budgetary requirements. source NY Times
