While everyone awaits word on Dale Sveum‘s managerial future (update: he doesn’t have one with the Cubs), Baseball America has released its top twenty prospects list for the single-A Midwest League.  Three Cubs are featured on the list, bringing the combined total of Cubs on a league top twenty up to nine.  No Cubs made the rookie-level Arizona League cut, while six made the short-season A-level Northwest League list. The list, started by the best prospect in all of baseball, Byron Buxton, features its first Cubs prospect in the sixth position.  Albert Almora is that player, and is widely considered to be among the “Big Four” prospects in the system along with Kris Bryant (#1 on the NWL list), Jorge Soler, and Javier Baez.  Pierce Johnson, a clear top ten prospect in the system, checks in at #10 in the league, while Dan Vogelbach makes it in at number seventeen.  In other words, don’t expect Vogelbach, and probably not Johnson either, to the make BA’s Top 100 prospects list.
