PHOENIX Armando Galarraga's spot in the Arizona rotation is not as certain as he thought it was. Galarraga, who is 3-4 with a 5.91 ERA, is scheduled to make his next start Saturday, but manager Kirk Gibson was not ready to commit when asked about it Tuesday. "It's possible," Gibson said. "I'm not sure." Gibson and general manager Kevin Towers had discussions about the rotation following Monday's game, when Galarraga gave up his major league-leading 13th home run and was touched for eight runs (five earned) in five innings of an 8-4 loss to San Diego. "Certainly things are being considered," Gibson said. The D-backs appear to have options. Class AA Mobile right-hander Wes Roemer is 3-0 with a 2.39 ERA in seven starts, and he has given up only 36 hits and seven walks in 52 23 innings. He has 43 strikeouts. Class AAA Reno right-hander Micah Owings is 3-1 with a 4.85 ERA, with only nine walks in 39 innings in a league where offense leads. Neither is on the 40-man roster, but creating a roster spot would not be an issue, one D-backs official said. Galarraga became upset when asked if he believed his spot in the rotation was in jeopardy after Monday's game. "Why worry? Is it something I have to worry about? We'll talk about it at the end of the season," a surly Galarraga said. "What are you talking about with my next start? You saying I'm going to lose my job? I'm frustrated about this start, not about the next one. I missed some pitches and they got some hits. I have to locate my fastball better." The D-backs already made one rotation change this season, elevating rookie right-hander Josh Collmenter after sending Barry Enright to Reno after he went 1-3 with a 6.49 ERA in six starts. Collmenter won his first start, 1-0, against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday. Unlike Enright, Galarraga does not have options remaining and would have to clear waivers if the D-backs wished to send him to the minors. Galarraga has enough service time to decline an outright assignment to the minors, but if it came to that he would forfeit the rest of his 2.3 million salary this season.
