Minnesota Twins 7 — New York Yankees 3

Back-to-back home runs to open the game against former Yankee Carl Pavano were not enough in tonight’s 7-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins.

Derek Jeter and Curtis Granderson gave Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Carl Pavano a rude introduction as they each went deep to right field to put the Yankees on the board with a bang. A pair of singles in the inning gave them their only lead of the night but that was all the offense that the Yankees could put together against the former Yankee.

Freddy Garcia struggled out of the gate too but the Twins didn’t take their foot off the gas pedal. In his 5.2 innings of work, he gave up 5 runs on 9 hits. The Twins offense was spread throughout the team as 7 of the 9 in the starting lineup drove in one run. Joe Mauer had a pair of doubles and Justin Morneau hit a home run as well as these two former All-Stars attempt to return to form.

Win – Carl Pavano (1-1)

Loss – Freddy Garcia (0-1)

Yankees captain wants his MVP

I WANT MY MVP? Derek Jeter (Photo credit: Keith Allison) Most people would say that the New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter has it all, but they are wrong. Ok, so Jeter is rich, handsome, dates hot brunettes, has enough World Series Championship rings for every finger on his right hand, Gold Gloves, Silver Sluggers and countless awards in just about everything. Now, if you asked...

Why the Yankees were supposed to lose to Twins

Carl Pavano (Photo credit: Wikipedia) As I was throwing out papers today, I came across the reasons the Yankees were doomed to lose the first game of their series against the Twins. The notes were a mess; as I had written them late on Sunday night but my reasoning actually turned out to be pretty accurate so I thought why not pass it along. So, here it is just a day and a dollar...

Curtis Granderson paid tribute to Tigers fan who died in Virginia Tech massacre

Curtis Granderson has not been a Detroit Tiger since 2009, but that did not stop him from honoring a Tigers fan who was killed in the disgusting events that took place at Virginia Tech five years ago.  Monday marked the fifth anniversary of the 32 slayings. So Monday night, Granderson wore wrist bands and cleats to pay tribute to a diehard Tigers fan, Brian Bluhm.  Granderson...

Where Does Derek Jeter’s Ascent Up the Hit Chart Take Him?

One of the early surprises of the season is the offensive output of Derek Jeter. Going into tonight’s matchup against Minnesota, Jeter is hitting a robust .366 with 2 HRs and 6 RBI. The slow bat that turned him into a below league average hitter the last couple of years has disappeared. I was ready to see him get his 3,000th hit and start the countdown of when his contract will...

New York Yankees: Things are about to get harder.

Pavano on the hill at Yankee Stadium - 04.16.2012 After a lovely weekend of taking two of three from the Angels, the Yankees looked good minus Phil Hughes. Last night the Yankees opened a four game set in the Bronx against the Minnesota Twins with a 3-7 loss. It didn’t help that Carl Pavano (aka. American Idle) was on the mound for the Twins, as considering his history in New...
