NEWS AND NOTES
  • The Yanks are 25-8 since the All-Star break, they've won 38 of their last 51, and at 76-45 they have the best record in all of baseball. They currently lead Boston by 6.5 games in the AL East.
  • In 34 games (32 starts) Andy Pettitte is 16-9, with a 3.63 ERA against Boston. 16 of those games and 14 starts were in Fenway, and in those games Andy is 6-3, with a 3.60 ERA. In two starts against the Sox this year he's 1-0, with a 2.08 ERA.
  • Since the all-star break Andy is 1-1, with a 2.04 ERA. In 39.2 IP he's allowed 9 ER on 31 hits, walked 10 and struck out 43.
  • In two career starts against the Yanks Brad Penny is 1-0, with a 2.45 ERA. He faced them earlier this season in Fenway and shut them out over 6 innings.
  • Damaso Marte has been added to the roster. Ramiro Pena is headed back to Scranton.
  • Mariano Rivera has converted 36-of-37 save opportunities this season. He's converted 32 straight saves which is the longest such streak in the Majors, and the longest of Mo's hall of fame career.

  • The Yankees have lost seven straight games in Fenway. Let's change that tonight.
  • At 35-27 the Yankees have the second best road record in the AL. The Angels are first at 37-24.
  • This from Mark Feinsand's Twitter page: Jon Papelbon said this prior to today's game. "We're 8-4 against them this season. We beat them half the time."
