Reds (5-6) at Pirates (5-6) 1:35 PM–PNC Park, Pittsburgh MLB.com Gameday TV: ROOT The Bucs go for a sweep of the Reds this afternoon, which would obviously be awesome. They’ve won 4 of 5 while Cincinnati has lost 4 in a row, so momentum is on the Bucs’ side for sure. They may need it today with a tough matchup on the mound, but hey, they beat Cueto last night (well, kinda). It’s the first Sunday home game of the year, and I feel obligated to mention that  the first 25K fans at the game (meaning all of them, most likely) will receive a “Raise The Jolly Roger flag.” Take a look: It’s not even a Jolly Roger, but whatever. The Bucs will also be sporting their new Sunday unis, which are basically 1971 throwbacks: Today’s starters… Phil Irwin (MLB debut) vs. Mat Latos (0-0, 2.84) I profiled Irwin yesterday once we found out that he was going to be making this start. “Filthy Phil” (yes, that’s a real nickname…he even uses it as his Twitter handle) is known for a big curveball and has posted very solid and consistent numbers in the minors. He might head back to Indy after this start, but I would not be surprised to see him earn a spot in the rotation some time later this year. He’s got a tough task in front of him today going up against a really tough Reds lineup in his first major league start, but I’m eager to watch him. Josh Harrison was sent to Indy to free up a spot for Irwin. Brandon Inge will probably come up after today’s game. Latos has posted two solid starts to begin his 2013 season and is probably the unsung hero of the Reds’ staff (behind Johnny Cueto). He dominated the Pirates last season, going 2-0 with a 1.40 ERA (and 21 strikeouts) against them over 19.1 innings. The power right-hander just adds to the list of tough pitching the Bucs have faced recently and will continue to face for the next couple series. Reds vs. Irwin: Nothing, because it’s Irwin’s debut. Duh.
