No, this isn’t to jinx a team that sits 8.5 games up in the division with 16 games to go and a Magic Number of 10. This is help form the reality in your mind that a team that went 69-93 a season ago is about to finish off one of the best turnarounds in Major League history. Yes, a mirror – reverse – image of a season ago.
That’s all fine and dandy, but the task at hand is beating the Tampa Bay Rays for a second straight night and winning their MLB-leading 31st series of the year. The Rays (78-65), who are that team 8.5 games back - Got that, Rays scoreboard standings operator? Good. –...

“If they said, ‘Go to the bullpen and warm up right now,’ I can’t do that,” Doubront told WEEI.com before Wednesday’s...

Tuesday night’s game against the Rays didn’t come easy for Ryan Dempster, but he kept the Red Sox in the game, and they eventually pulled away with the W.
The right-hander tossed five innings on the night, and he struggled with command throughout his outing, but he was able to minimize the damage, allowing only one earned run to cross the plate. Dempster...
Thursday night’s outing was a bit of a rough one for Jake Peavy.
Peavy allowed just three runs in the game, but he struggled with his control, tying a season high with five walks over six innings. The game was tied when the right-hander departed, but Boston’s bullpen crumbled in the eighth, allowing the Rays to escape with a 4-3 win in the final meeting of the regular season...
