Boston Red Sox
Detroit Tigers, 54-50, 2nd place, 2.5 back.
Well, maybe the less said about the past two games the better. It was a bit annoying that they started the game in the rain, played in the rain, then called the game once it became official (with bases loaded no less).
Although that was all fine with Jim Leyland.
After seeing Delmon Young ripped here last night, Leyland has taken the drastic move of bumping him to 6th in the batting order.
Stat of the Day: Doug Fister has been the staff ace in the 2nd half: 3-1, 1.80, with a team-leading 31 Ks.
Today’s Player of the Pre-game: Brennan Boesch. Leyland got all crazy and swapped Boesch and Young in the 5 and 6 spots, lets see how Boesch does.
Today’s Not-Set-In-Stone-After-All Lineup:
- Austin Jackson CF
- Quintin Berry LF
- Miguel Cabrera 3B
- Prince Fielder 1B
- Brennan Boesch RF
- Delmon Young DH
- Alex Avila C
- Jhonny Peralta SS
- Ramon Santiago 2B

The Detroit Tigers head into the final day of the MLB non-waiver trade deadline with a choice to make. Dropping 5 of 7 on their current homestand has fans in the Motor City uneasy yet again. The decision has boiled down to whether this team should add one final piece to the puzzle.
So far, the trade with the Miami Marlins has left much to be desired. Anibal Sanchez got torched north...
Who is the greatest Tiger’s pitcher ever: McLain or Verlander?
McLain and Verlander: Which Tiger Burned Brighter?
1968 is a year Detroit Tiger fans know well, but it also had a sweeping significance for MLB in general. In what came to be known as the Year of the Pitcher, both ERA (a sparkling 1.12, achieved by Bob Gibson of St. Louis) and league champion batting average (.301...
Detroit Tigers, 54-49, 2nd place, 1.5 back.
With the trade deadline past and the Tigers standing pat, perhaps it is time once more to look at the Detroit DH situation. The Tigers still rank 13th of 14 teams in DH performance, which is exactly where they stood when we looked at this a couple of months ago. Tiger DHs have combined for a .248 average and a measly .646 OPS, underwhelmed...
Twitter has worked it's way into the lives of many professional athletes, but some are still hesitant to jump aboard the latest trend. Justin Verlander spoke on the topic with NESN's own Jenny Dell, saying that Twitter can be fun, but athletes have to be careful. Meanwhile, Jim Rice and Matt Stairs both are glad they never had such an outlet during their playing days. Check...
There was a lot of talk, and lot of rumors, and quite possibly a late run at Alfonso Soriano that may still get a deal done. However, at the non waiver trade deadline the Detroit Tigers failed to add the right handed bat this team needs. They failed to add a middle of the order bat that could help spark an offense that has yet again gone stone cold. The Tigers are in a funk, and...
Detroit Tigers outfielder Delmon Young is trying to work out a deal with prosecutors in his hate-crime harassment case, his lawyer said Thursday.
Young appeared briefly in a Manhattan court Thursday for an update on the misdemeanor case. He's accused of yelling anti-Jewish epithets at a group of tourists, tussling with them and tackling one to the ground in April, when the Tigers...
Aaron Cook got off to a good start in Wednesday night's game against the Detroit Tigers. Unfortunately, he allowed a five-run fifth inning that overshadowed the strong start out of the gate. After making quick work of the Tigers in the first three innings, Cook allowed one run in the fourth and back-to-back home runs by Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder in the big fifth inning...
Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder homered on consecutive pitches to cap a five-run fifth inning Wednesday night, and the Detroit Tigers beat the Boston Red Sox 7-5 to avoid a three-game sweep.
Delmon Young added a solo homer for Detroit, which won for just the second time in seven games.
Carl Crawford hit a solo homer for the Red Sox, who had a four-game winning streak halted....

The Red Sox won on Tuesday night, but just barely. Thanks to the umpires' decision to end the game despite a serious mounting threat from Detroit, the Sox ride a four-game winning streak into Wednesday's series finale. That had Tigers manager Jim Leyland fuming after the game but still was pretty subdued, so the Sox should probably be expecting something wild in response...
It took long enough, but the Red Sox finally plated a run against Justin Verlander. In fact, they plated quite a few. After allowing multiple baserunners, dealing with the rain and a difficult strike zone, Verlander finally succumbed to the Red Sox attack in the fourth inning. To which NESN Nation's Dan Duquette says: about time. See more in the video above. Join NESN Nation...
