[Box Score] [Cincinnati.com] [Redleg Nation] [Brewers Mission 162] Things started going badly in this one–again because of Homer Bailey’s inconsistencies. He came out with 96 MPH stuff, some of the best velocity I’ve seen him have a in a long time and after retiring what seemed like the first two hitters of the game with ease, he came unraveled a little bit. He loaded the bases and Lucroy singled home a couple of runners and the route was on. It summed up Homer Bailey’s entire Cincinnati career. Come out with electric stuff, but for some reason you lack the ability to just get guys out and everything was labored. After the Brewers loaded up the sacks again later in the game and Aramis Ramirez cleared then to make it 6-0, I decided it was time to head to the gym and prepare mentally for the loss. While I was on the elliptical for an hour I listened to Marty and when the Reds are losing Marty really loses focus. Bruce homered again to stretch his streak to 11 games. Brandon Phillips ...

Hamilton, Cingrani set bar for rest of Reds top prospects

Who's hot and who's not right now

Johnny Cueto is among several Cincy players who are heating up in May The month of April can be deceiving in many ways as it relates to the performance of MLBers. Players can get off to hot starts only to fizzle out in the remaining five months of the season. Or on the other hand, a player may also labor through a rough April only to turn it on as the weather gets warmer...

Reds hold on against Brew Crew for series victory

Who needs an Ace? Not the Reds, they already have one. The Reds kept their series win streak alive in dramatic fashion, perhaps a bit too dramatic, taking two of three in Milwaukee after a 2-1 victory over the Brewers on Wednesday afternoon. It was more than just any victory, though, as this one felt a little bit bigger. All the info after the break… ...

Reds occupy 12th spot in power rankings

ESPN released the latest edition of their weekly MLB Power Rankings on Monday and the Redlegs came in solid at no. 12. That's an improvement of five spots from last week's ranking (17th) -- only the Angels and Orioles made bigger jumps during that span (+6). The team's rise in the poll was undoubtedly aided on the strength of a 3-2 record, which included a...

With Cairo's return, Reds' bench is all right-handed

The Cincinnati Reds are now without a left-handed bat off the bench. The club activated Miguel Cairo from the disabled list before Monday's game. To clear a roster spot, Cincinnati outrighted Willie Harris to Class AAA Louisville. Harris was the only left-handed hitter on the bench, but he's struggled so badly that the Reds kept Todd Frazier at Harris' expense. ...

Zack Cozart: Offseason rehab video

Every now and then I'll find myself perusing around YouTube for some good, Reds-related video I can post on the blog. And this is what I happened to find in my latest search. Seen here is prime NL Rookie of the Year candidate Zack Cozart discussing his road to recovery from Tommy John surgery. This video clip was obviously produced and aired prior to the start...

Off day observations

With the off day and the Reds seemingly on a roll I thought I would take a post to look at how the Reds are faring so far this season. First, the Reds have arguably the best pitcher in Baseball at the top of their rotation. With a 1.12 ERA, Cueto is the second best staring pitcher in baseball (based on ERA alone.) He has 4 wins compared to the 0 wins Dempster (1.02 ERA) has. Cueto...

The 'Big Three' came through with back-to-back-to-back hits during the fourth inning of last night's 6-1 victory. Jay Bruce cashed 'em in with his 9th homer of the year -- a 463-ft bomb that nearly cleared the stadium in right center.
