Pirates (18-15) at Mets (13-17)
7:10 PM–Citi Field, New York
TV: MLB.TV (Free today, but blacked out in Pittsburgh)
The Bucs are in the Big Apple for the weekend as they get set to take on the Mets in a four game series. The Mets aren’t all that interesting of a team and it looks like they’re going to be stuck battling Philly for 3rd in the NL East behind the Braves and Nats. Still, they’ve dominated the Pirates at Citi Field since it opened – the Bucs are just 12-3 there. They moved the fences at Citi in a bit before the season in hopes of more offense, and so far the Mets have been in the middle of the pack in terms of runs scored and allowed at home.
No TV in Pittsburgh tonight because of the Pens. If you’re outside Pittsburgh or NY, you can watch for free on MLBTV.
Jeff Locke (3-1, 3.21) vs. Dillon Gee (2-4, 6.16)
Locke had his scoreless string interrupted in his last start (against the Nats on Sunday) but wasn’t too bad in that game. He was lifted very quickly by Clint Hurdle after a couple of baserunners in the sixth despite a low pitch count, and that move ended up costing Locke and the Bucs as the inherited runners scored. Jeff still needs to improve his strikeout and walk numbers but has been doing a very nice job in the back of the rotation. He should stay there for the foreseeable future.
Gee is 2-0 with a 1.71 ERA in 3 starts against the Pirates, but he’s been pretty terrible so far this season. After facing several top-notch pitchers over the past homestand, the Bucs get a break in that department (until Sunday when they’ll face Matt Harvey).
