One of the things that I've really liked about the last few games for the Pirates (and if it wasn't already clear, I've liked quite a few things) is that the Pirates have been playing opponents that have made mistakes, and the Pirates have seriously cashed in on them. Against the Indians, Asdrubal Cabrera booted balls all over the field on Saturday and Sunday and the Pirates made the Tribe pay almost every single time. On Thursday, Bryan Dozier bobbled an easy force out and Andrew McCutchen immediately followed with a three-run double. On Friday, the Tigers handed the Pirates two runs after misplaying an AJ Burnett sacrifice bunt two different ways, and the Pirates made those runs stand up for a win. There were plenty of good things on Friday, actually ('Cutch staying hot, Pedro's absolutely laced single in the second, Burnett getting out of a big jam in the sixth with Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder up, Hurdle having the appropriate hook for Burnett tonight, B...

Burnett’s bunt (and pitching) defeats Detroit
The Pirates grabbed hold of an early lead on Friday night and hung on to it the rest of the way, defeating the Tigers 4-1 in front of a sellout crowd at PNC Park.
A.J. Burnett won his seventh start in a row–the longest such streak by a Pirate since Dock Ellis. Burnett went six scoreless and allowed just two hits (although he walked three) while striking out four. After A.J. worked...

Make that 7 in a row for AJ Burnett
With last night’s 4-1 win over the Tigers, AJ Burnett became the first Pirates pitcher since Dock Ellis in 1974 to win seven straight starts…and Burnett has done it without the help of LSD…as far as we know.
One night after James McDonald threw a complete game gem, Burnett did his thing by throwing 6 shutout innings and allowing just 2 hits while striking out 4, getting his...

6/23 Game Recap: Indians 1 - Astros 8

The lonely run the Indians scored today was credited to Asdrubal Cabrera. Cabrera hit a solo home run in the 4th inning, which gave the Indians the early lead. His 9th home run of the year gave him a score of 2.92, winning him his 5th Player of the Game of the season.

Cabreras move across infield least of Tigers concerns
During a recent session with the media, Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland broke into a smile.
"Nobody's asking about Miggy at third base anymore," he said.
The biggest offseason debate in the Motor City was about the Tigers decision to sign free-agent Prince Fielder, install him at first base and move Miguel Cabrera back to his original position, third base. Cabrera...
Box Score: Astros 8, Indians 1
The Indians dropped the second game of their interleague series in Houston by a final of 8-1. The Tribe opened the scoring with a solo shot by Asdrubal Cabrera, but it all came apart for Jeanmar Gomez in the fifth inning and the Astros were well on their way. Dallas Keuchel went the distance for the Astros, allowing just the Cabrera blast.

WP: A.J. Burnett (8-2, 3.24 ERA)
LP: Doug Fister (1-4, 2.72 ERA)
SV: Joel Hanrahan (18, 2.33 ERA)
You know things are going well when Rod Barajas, owner of a 4.5 40-yard dash (4.5 is in minutes, of course), somehow comes around to score from first base on a bunt.
With the Pirates already up 2-0 in the 2nd, Pedro Alvarez and Barajas hit back-to-back singles...
MLB Insiders: Detroit Tigers

6/22 Recap | Pirates 4 Tigers 1
After a brilliant outing by James McDonald Thursday night, AJ Burnett took the hill for the Pirates and decided he wanted to win his seventh straight outing. AJ pitched six solid innings of two hit ball, while striking out four. He worked out of a huge jam in the sixth inning getting two of the most feared hitters in the league, in Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder, to ground into...
Game 2012.71: Tigers at Pirates
Detroit Tigers, 34-36, 3 1/2 games behind Cleveland.
The last game had a little of everything–Pitcher Fielding Follies, Clownman antics in left, strange double-shifting–and a lot of nothing.
Friday night the Tigers continued to help Pittsburgh gain ground in the NL Central, this time by losing to the Pirates 4-1. The Pirates tried to be sporting about it by sending Jason Grilli...

Pirates: 4 vs Tigers: 1: Remember when you cringed that the Yankees signed both C.C. Sabathia and A.J. Burnett on that fateful day in December 2008. They were trying to buy themselves another World Series it seemed. And they did, the bastards. Now fast forward to the...
