Brewers (32-46) at Pirates (49-30)
7:15 PM–PNC Park, Pittsburgh
The first place Pittsburgh Pirates go for eight in a row tonight against the last place Milwaukee Brewers. PNC Park should be sold out for the fifth straight game (it’s Fireworks Night, after all) and it should be a great atmosphere on the North Shore.
Tonight’s game is on FOX, but only in areas near Pittsburgh and Milwaukee. (And St. Louis, since they have an interest in Pirates games all of a sudden.) Here’s the map.
Wandy Rodriguez had a setback in his bullpen session and it looks like he will be shut down for a bit. Not good. On the other hand, all the people terrified that Gerrit Cole is going to be sent down soon can relax.
A.J. Burnett had a good bullpen on Friday and will throw a simulated game on Tuesday.
Donovan Hand (0-0, 2.37) vs. Francisco Liriano (6-3, 2.30)
Hand has pitched well for the Brewers, but has done so mostly in relief. He made his first MLB start last time out and pitched fine, but only managed to go 4.2. At the very least, the Pirates should be able to get in to the Milwaukee bullpen early again tonight.
Liriano has continued to be very good for the Bucs, although his strikeouts have come down a bit (not nearly enough to be a concern, though). His last start was a good one out in Los Angeles and he pitched well against the Brewers earlier this year in his second start as a Pirate.
