Pirates (56-39) at Reds (55-42)
1:10 PM–Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati
The Pirates look to avoid a demoralizing sweep today in Cincinnati. After two really tough losses the last two nights, it would be really great to see a solid starting pitching effort and a better afternoon for the offense. The Bucs don’t “need” a win today, but it certainly feels important for them to get one under their belt here in the second half.
Jeff Locke (8-2, 2.15) vs. Homer Bailey (5-8, 3.82)
Locke will take the mound for the first time in nearly two weeks after being scratched from his last start (and the ASG) with a back issue. I think (and hope) that was more of an excuse to give him a nice little break, but we’ll see. Jeff begins the second half hoping to prove his first half was legit. His last outing against the Reds at GABP was a good one, but the Bucs scored only one run and eventually lost that game. ‘
Bailey’s been having an excellent year but has struggled a bit since his no hitter. The big righty has owned the Pirates in the past for the most part but the Bucs hit him fairly well the only time they’ve faced him so far in 2013 (they eventually won against the bullpen).
