Kyle Lotzkar Curveball While I have done these kinds of articles in the past, from here on out I plan to have one every Monday for a different player. Today I will be looking at Kyle Lotzkar. He has split his time between Bakersfield and Pensacola this year with these stats: Tm W L ERA IP H HR BB SO WHIP K/BB Bakersfield 3 0 2.39 26.1 22 2 10 27 1.22 2.7 Pensacola 4 2 3.47 46.2 40 3 26 56 1.41 2.2 Total 7 2 3.08 73 62 5 36 83 1.34 2.3 Scouting Background Pitches: Lotzkar throws a fastball, curveball and a change up. His fastball works in the 91-93 range and can hit 95. His curveball is considered an above-average to plus pitch (see below). His change up is a solid pitch. Mechanics: His mechanics are much cleaner than they have been in years past, though there is still some ever so slight hyper-abduction. You can see video below. Game Information The game profiles below is one of Lotzkar’s better games of his career. He allowed 2 runs in 7 innings without a walk and wi...

Aroldis Chapman does double somersault

Tonight's Reds game was interesting for more than a couple reasons. Bronson Arroyo had a no-hitter going into the eighth inning with the Reds leading 3-0. He then allowed 3 runs to tie the game. Drew Stubbs homered in the bottom of the eighth to give the Reds the lead back 4-3 and then Aroldis Chapman finished the game with a save in the ninth. But that wasn't all. The...

Love or hate him, Stubbs delivers for Reds

CINCINNATI If one Cincinnati Reds fan wants to start an argument with another Cincinnati Reds fan, all one need do is say two words: "Drew Stubbs." And the other fan will say, "Them's fightin' words." Drew Stubbs is a buzzword in Reds Country and there is little middle ground one is either for him or against him. Yay or nay. Thumbs up or thumbs down...

Chapman celebrates with somersaults; Reds don’t approve

Aroldis Chapman’s ninth save of the season might have been the most controversial – because of something he did after it was over. Once the Cincinnati Reds closer struck out Martin Maldonado to clinch a 4-3 victory over Milwaukee Tuesday night, Chapman took two somersaults toward catcher Ryan Hanigan in an apparent celebration. The Reds reacted with concern – that Chapman might...

Reds 3B Frazier honored by Dr. Heimlich

Dr. Henry Heimlich presented Cincinnati Reds third baseman Todd Frazier with a life-saving award on Tuesday before a game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Frazier used the Heimlich maneuver on a choking restaurant customer during a series in Pittsburgh in late May. Heimlich, who moved to Cincinnati in the 1960s, went on the field and gave Frazier a certificate and a plaque for saving...

Reds happy to see interleague play over

Given their results over the past week, the Cincinnati Reds are probably thrilled to have reached the end of interleague play. They may not catch a break, though, when they welcome the Milwaukee Brewers to Great American Ball Park on Monday night. That's because scheduled starter Yovani Gallardo and star outfielder Ryan Braun have been particularly tough to handle for Cincinnati...

Latos Ks 13 to lead Reds past Brewers

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Mat Latos fanned a personal-best 13 batters in his second career complete game Monday night, leading the Cincinnati Reds to a 3-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. The NL Central leaders won for only the second time in seven games. The defending champion Brewers have dropped eight of 13, falling 7 games back -- one shy of their season high. Latos (6-2) gave...

Minor League Team Progress Report

It has been nearly a month since I last did one of these. Between the draft and other planned things, I simply haven’t gotten it done. With the start of the rookie season and the second half for Dayton/Bakersfield/Pensacola (Louisville doesn’t play halves) it felt like the right week to bring it back into play. Louisville Bats: 30-49 overall, 309 runs scored, 362 runs allowed...

Daily Brief: Latos shows his stuff in complete game

Last Game It was the Mat Latos show in the Reds’ 1-3 win over the Brewers last night. Not only did he go complete game and eliminate the opportunity for anyone to blow his save, the .130 hitter also went 2-for-3 at the plate, posting 2 of the team’s 7 hits. Next Game Bronson Arroyo (3-5, 4.19 ERA) takes his turn on the mound against the Brewers’ Marco Estrada (0-3, 4.50 ERA...

Brewers seek to help Reds with ballpark streak

Cincinnati's Bronson Arroyo is having a hard time keeping the ball in the yard, and he'll be facing a Milwaukee team that ranks as one of the most powerful in the NL. The Brewers' lineup, however, hasn't shown much pop lately. Arroyo hopes to take advantage of Milwaukee's sudden offensive struggles Tuesday night at Great American Ball Park. The NL Central-leading...

Aroldis Chapman pulls off a double somersault after notching save against the Brewers (VIDEO)

Reds closer Aroldis Chapman came in to the ninth inning to close out Tuesday’s game against the Brewers after a Drew Stubbs home run in the bottom of the eighth gave Cincy the 4-3 lead.  The flame throwing Chapman did a masterful job of preserving the win by striking out Ryan Braun, walking Aramis Ramirez, then fanning pinch hitters Carlos Gomez and Martin Maldonado. Chapman was...

Twins make Chapman pay, top Reds

Josh Willingham hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning off shaky Cincinnati closer Aroldis Chapman, rallying the Minnesota Twins over the Reds 4-3 Sunday. Joe Mauer opened the ninth with a double off the left-field wall against Chapman (4-4). Willingham followed with his 15th homer of the season, a 438-foot drive into the second level in left field. In Chapman's previous outing...

Gallardo, Brewers open series in Cincinnati

Given their results over the past week, the Cincinnati Reds are probably thrilled to have reached the end of interleague play. They may not catch a break, though, when they welcome the Milwaukee Brewers to Great American Ball Park on Monday night. That's because scheduled starter Yovani Gallardo and star outfielder Ryan Braun have been particularly tough to handle for Cincinnati...
