Found May 27, 2012 on Love My Bravos:
Mac is GREAT at catching. Tammy, SJ, Tammy's friends and their new baby, Catherine and I went to the game Friday night. They've played pretty well at the other games I've attended this year -- what happened tonight, boys?! Well, a lot of them were/are sick. MattE seriously looked like he was going to keel over. When their illnesses have run their course, I think we'll be back in first in no time. Just think, when you have the flu (real flu, not a cold), you stay home from work and lay on the couch and drink lots of fluids. No one wants you at work, infecting everyone else. These guys have to come in when they're sick, put on all their gear, sit in the sweltering on-field heat, maybe even come in and run or play? Not to mention...start?! Crazy. Catherine, Jenna and I watched BP together before meeting up with Tammy and SJ. Here are some pictures... They came out to stretch much later than usual; the field was empty when gates opened. The Nats came out at the same ...

Braves must learn to win without Chipper

ATLANTA The Braves need to figure out how to win without Chipper Jones, because he wont be around for a couple of weeks. And thats nothing compared to next year, when he wont be here at all. They seem as bewildered and confused as lost children when Jones isnt tending the flock, and now that hes on the 15-day disabled list with his bruised calf of many colors, the Braves have to...

Venters searching for his devastating sinker

Jonny Venters problems can be summed up in one succinct sentence: His sinker is a stinker. The solution isnt so simple. Venters needs his sinker. Its his best pitch, the reason why hes in the majors, the weapon that helped him become one of the top late-inning shutdown relievers in his two-plus years in the majors. At issue is that his sinker has lost its sink. Its not dipping...

MLB Umpire Kerwin Danley gets hit in the groin by pitch (Video)

Previously on Outside the Boxscore, we have shown you some classic clips of umpire/referees getting hit in the groin. This video provides us another classic moment as home plate umpire Kerwin Danley got hit in the groin during last Sunday's Braves/Nationals game in Atlanta by a deflected pitch from Braves pitcher Brandon Beachy. Watch as the ball takes an unfortunate bounce...

Braves place Jones on DL

The Atlanta Braves placed third baseman Chipper Jones on the 15-day disabled list after Friday night's game with a leg bruise. The move was back-dated to Wednesday, when he last played. He had been pinch-hitting since May 18. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said he may not be ready when he is eligible to come off the DL on June 7. "It's not getting better and we...

Braves' Freeman still frustrated by vision problem

Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman is not playing for the third straight day because of dry eyes and blurry vision. Freeman said Monday he can't wear contacts because his tear ducts aren't producing. He can't wear glasses when playing because he can't see when hitting from his closed stance. He hopes sports goggles will arrive by Tuesday and fix the problem. He...

Bryce Harper’s Sunday Night Baseball Home Run off Livan Hernandez

In last night’s 7-2 win that finished off a Nationals sweep, Bryce Harper hit what I think was the most impressive of his four career big league home runs. In case you weren’t watching, in the at-bat prior Livan Hernandez struck out Harper with a breaking ball. When Livan came back with a breaking ball the following at-bat, it ended up deep in the Atlanta night.

Braves battered by Harper, Nationals

ATLANTA (AP) -- Bryce Harper homered and Danny Espinosa added a three-run shot to help Washington strengthen its hold on first place in the NL East by beating the reeling Atlanta Braves 8-4 on Saturday. Stephen Strasburg (5-1) was not sharp but still won. He set a season high with four walks while giving up four runs and six hits in five innings. He had six strikeouts. The Braves...

The "Holy I can't believe it's Memorial Day weekend and they're in first place" Washington Nationals keep rolling

(Davey Johnson called on Tyler Clippard to save his 3rd game in a row. Screengrab via MASN/MLB.com) "Coming in here, they arguably had been playing as well as anybody in the league, maybe in baseball. To spank them in their home park, it’s big. We know them pretty good from spring training. We know how good they are." (Davey Johnson, via Washington Times...

ATLANTA (AP) -- Lance Lynn joined Philadelphia's Cole Hamels as the major leagues' first eight-game winners, and the St. Louis Cardinals' extended the Atlanta Braves' longest losing streak in two years to eight games with an 8-2 victory Monday. Lynn (8-1) allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings. While he was dominating the Braves, Hamels pitched the Phillies...

What You Need to Know: Tuesday, May 29 by Daniel Rathman

The Weekend Takeaway It’s not all that hard to go from first to last in nine days this early in the season. To do so as resoundingly as the Braves have, though, takes a special kind of awfulness. At the end of play on May 20, Fredi Gonzalez’s team was 26-16 and enjoyed a 1 ½-game lead in the National League East. At the close of shop last night, the Braves had slipped to...

Marlins host Nationals in divisional showdown

One of the longest road trips of the season hasn't proven much of an obstacle so far for the NL East-leading Washington Nationals. The Nationals will try to complete their three-city journey to the homes of division rivals in positive fashion when they pay their first visit to the Miami Marlins' new park for three games starting Monday afternoon. After beginning its nine...
