Eleven innings. This game may be in my top five most exciting/insane Braves games I've attended in this century. (Others on the list, not in order, are Ubaldo's no-hitter against us, Smoltz breaking the NL saves record, last year's 19-inning marathon, Heyward's first game.) When we heard Hanson was going up against Halladay, I think we all expected a 3-2 final score. Did anyone think we'd end up with this final score?? wow 15 runs! 19 hits!! Crazy!! I don't have many pictures from this game. I traded babysitting for some most excellent seats and didn't get the camera out until after I delivered him back to his mom, who was working. He was so well-behaved, as usual -- I love this kid! watching BP with me, having a snack Here are a few pictures. I didn't actually get the camera out until Livan was in the game with his awesome red glove. (Seriously, I am really loving Livo. I've heard he's funny and all-around amazing, but until you see him makin...

John Smoltz crashes a go-kart (Video)

I'll be honest, the odds that a video of former Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz crashing a go-kart would exist were pretty low until the below clip came to life. Smoltz was filming a segment for CBS new sports show called "The Players Club" and tried his hand at go-kart racing. Then, Smoltz while attempting to make a turn crashed into the barrier of the...

Halladay rejoins Phils after absence

Philadelphia Phillies ace Roy Halladay returned to the team Friday following a brief absence to attend to a personal matter. Halladay rejoined his teammates in Washington and threw his normal bullpen session ahead of Philadelphia's game against the Nationals. He declined to comment through a team spokesperson, according to CSNPhilly.com. The 34-year-old right-hander left the...

Hinske homers as Braves outlast Rockies

DENVER (AP) -- Eric Hinske had four hits, including a tiebreaking two-run homer in the 11th inning, and the Atlanta Braves beat the Colorado Rockies 9-8 on Friday night. After pinch-hitter Tyler Pastornicky singled to start the 11th, Hinske sent a 94-mph fastball from Edgmer Escalona (0-1) into the Rockies' bullpen for his first homer of the season. Chad Durbin (2-0) worked...

Hamels plunks Harper, then admits aiming for him

Cole Hamels admits it: He plunked rookie phenom Bryce Harper on purpose. ''I was trying to hit him,'' the Philadelphia lefty said. ''I'm not going to deny it.'' That startling bit of honesty came after Hamels nailed the Washington teen with a fastball in the small of the back his first time up during the Phillies' 9-3 win Sunday night. The...

Utley Re-Joins Phillies to Take Next Steps in Rehab

Phillies' All Star 2nd Baseman Chase Utley has re-joined the Phillies to continue his rehab. After a 7-1 drubbing to the Washington Nationals has the Phillies 5.5 games out of first place, the Phillies will try to avoid a sweep today. This series against the first place Nationals has not gone as planned. But there is some good news. Phillies All Star 2nd baseman Chase Utley has...

Braves drop series to Phils, look to regroup in Denver

By Tara Rowe Randall Delgado limited the Phillies to 2 runs over 8 innings Wednesday The Braves came into the series with a bad taste in their mouth after splitting a 4-game series with the Pirates at Turner Field. They had gone 7-for-39 with runners in scoring position in that series. The Braves had lost Jason Heyward for a few games to an oblique injury, were continuing to manage...

The Odd Career Path of Vance Worley

Heading into the 2008 draft, Baseball America concluded their scouting report on Long Beach State right-hander Vance Worley by saying this: Command is the primary concern with Worley, not in terms of walks but in quality of pitches and efficiency, as he frequently finds himself in deep counts. With refinement of his secondary offerings, he could develop into a mid-rotation starter...

TAL'S HANDY STATS   WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: I am alternating a game-day 2012 ERA For The NL East and a 2012 ERA For The MLB 5. See link section below. In each publication, the number...

Nagging Nats Pound the Phillies

As if Friday night’s gut wrenching loss was not enough, the Phillies stunk up Nationals park again today. With only 5 hits in the game, the lone RBI came off a sac fly from Carlos Ruiz in the 4th inning. If you fell asleep after that, you missed nothing. By the 5th inning, I found myself wishing I had taken a nap instead as pitcher Vance Worley had his first really bad outing of...

VIDEO: Bryce Harper steals home

This is pretty awesome. Cole Hamels hit Bryce Harper in the first inning, and Harper moved up to third on a Jayson Werth single. Hamels threw over to first to check on Werth, and as soon as he released the pitch, Harper made a beeline towards the plate, and slid in safely. You can say what you want to say about Harper's attitude and how the media portrays him, but there is no...

Out of the Batter's Box - Phillies prepare for key weekend series in Washington

Waking up this morning still in some awe over the performance of Joe Blanton yesterday. After 400 pitches were thrown Wednesday night in an extra innings offensive explosion, Blanton managed to get through a complete game on fewer than 90 pitches. While Blanton deserves a bunch of credit for doing what he did, you have to pit some blame on the Braves as well. No pitcher, no matter...

The Phils are crushed as they lose to the Nats, 7-1.

The Phils lose the series as they are crushed by the first-place Nats, 7-1. The Phils took the lead in the fourth as, with a man on third, and with one man out, Carlos Ruiz hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Shane Victorino, who had earlier doubled, then went to third base on Hunter Pence’s fly out to right, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead. The Nats took the lead in the fifth as, with two...
