The Mets and Padres play game three today. In last night’s game the Mets had excellent pitching and timely hitting, thus putting Thursday’s game behind them. Today they will try to keep this going behind Johan Santana as he takes on Clayton Richard.
Johan Santana is 1-2 on the season with a 3.24 ERA over 9 starts and 50.0 innings of work. He has made 4 starts in the month of May where he has pitched 26.0 innings with a 4.15 ERA. The New York Mets defeated the San Diego Padres on Saturday afternoon to tie a season best five games over .500:
Johan Santana started for the Mets and needed just 96 pitches to navigate his way through nine scoreless innings en route to his second win of the season:
ACES UP: Santana absolutely dominated Padre hitters, allowing just four hits — all singles — and striking out...
NEW YORK-Johan Santana’s shoulder surgery may have shaved some juice off of his velocity, but this afternoon he delivered a near-magical performance.

You can’t judge a trade or non-trade immediately, but 4 years later gives you a pretty fair reading. Prior to the 2008 season, the Minnesota Twins were actively shopping Johan Santana who was entering into the final year of his contract before becoming a free agent. The Red Sox and Yankees were in hot pursuit competing with each other for Santana’s services. Both had offered...
Santana dominated today, pitching a shutout allowing only 3 hits and he walked none.
The Mets defeated the San Diego Padres this afternoon by a score of 9-0. Johan Santana pitched spectacular today, as he went the distance and allowed no runs. His location was spot on, and not many balls were hit hard off him today. Overall it was as dominant as he has ever been since returning from...
Johan Santana has gotten 18 batters in a row out and hasn’t allowed a hit since the second inning. He has allowed three hits and no runs through seven innings pitched. He has walked none and struck out six. Also, Johan has thrown 61 pitches for strikes out of only 78 pitches thrown so far.
NEW YORK -- Johan Santana, who entered Saturday tied for the most no-decisions in the majors with six after his first nine starts, evened his record at 2-2 as his New York Mets bested the visiting San Diego Padres 9-0 in front of 28,745 at Citi Field. The former two-time Cy Young winner, still finding his way back from a left shoulder injury that sidelined him for the entire 2011...
While watching today’s broadcast of the Mets 9-0 blanking of the Padres, there were so many great things going on. This was easily one of the best games I’ve watched all season thus far. May there be many more!
Johan Santana was as cunning as ever and even though his fastball resided in the 86-88 mph range today, the crafty southpaw spun a gem and went all the way on a complete...
Johan Santana pitched a four-hitter for his first shutout since 2010 and the New York Mets backed him with three home runs in a 9-0 win over the San Diego Padres 9-0 Saturday.
Mike Nickeas hit New York's first grand slam of the season, and Scott Hairston and Vinny Rottino also homered for the Mets, who got it done without David Wright once again.
The Mets won for the fifth...
The Padres amaze me in how they play ball. They can go out and beat a phenom pitcher, but then can make a normal pitcher look like Cy Young. Now alright, Johan Santana isn't a normal pitcher. When he is healthy and is on his game he is great. However, the guy has been inconsistent for the past few years because of injuries. But yesterday he pitched a complete game shut out. This...
The Mets are 27-21 entering Memorial Day, which comes as a huge surprise to many pundits around baseball. Picked to finish last, or in some cases to set records for futility, Terry Collins has his “Buffalo Bisons” playing hard and competing every night.
One of the biggest surprises has to be Johan Santana. The two-time Cy Young Award winner couldn’t be pitching any better...
The Mets take on the Padres in the 3rd game of this 4 game memorial day series and came away a 6-1 win last night. First pitch today will be a 1:10 PM on PIX 11.
We’ve got a nice pitching matchup going today as the Padres will send Clayton Richard (2-5, 4.63 ERA) to face Johan Santana (1-2, 3.24 ERA). They key to todays game as it is with all games that Santana takes the hill...
David Wright gets a good chunk of the credit for the Mets’ unexpectedly solid start to this season and deservedly so. New York doesn’t have a lot of run producers, and Wright is hitting a ML-leading .415 as June approaches.
But credit is due also with the Mets’ pitching staff, particularly its starting rotation. Or, at least, the top two guys in the starting rotation.
