The Mets look to bounce back from dropping a series against the Dodgers by taking one from Phillies tonight at Citi Field. Yesterday was a frustrating day as the Mets offense just could not build any rallies off of Hefner’s strong start and ended up losing 3-2 after winning the previous game with a walk off grand slam. Tonight Dillon Gee will take the mound for the Mets as he squares off against Kyle Kendrick. Dillon Gee is now 1-3 on the seasoon with a 5.85 ERA over 19.2 innings of work. He looked a lot better in his last start against the Nationals where he allowed 3 hits and no runs over 5.2 innings of work and tonight he has a shot of redemption. In his last start against the Phillies, the second start of the season for Gee, he allowed 7 ER over 3.0 innings. Now he gets the Phillies outside of their sand box and inside of Citi Field. The Phillies have the following numbers against him: Mayberry 4-11, 2B, 2 HR Rollins 7-11, 2B Utley 2-10, 2B Howard 3-9, 3 HR Nix 2-6 Young 4-5, 2 HR Kyle Kendrick is 1-1 this season over 4 starts with a 3.28 ERA. Kendrick’s only bad start was the first of the season where he allowed 5 ER over 5.2 innings, after that he has allowed 2 ER or less between 6 or 7 innings (including a 2 ER, 6 IP outing against the Mets). On the bad side, he has allowed 8 hits in three of his four starts this year. The Mets have the following numbers against him: Wright 11-34, 2 2B, 2 HR Davis 4-19, 2 2B Murphy 3-17, 2B Duda 3-12, 2 2B, HR Buck 1-10, HR Baxter 3-6, 2B, HR Lets Go Mets! Tweet

The early-season struggles of Dillon Gee

The Mets’ starting rotation has been frustrating this season. Starters Jonathon Niese and Matt Harvey have turned out consistent — and at times superb — starts this season, however the rest of the rotation has been mediocre at best. Granted, it’s early yet, but no one has been more of a disappointment this season than Dillon Gee, whose starts have been solid at times,...

No smoke and mirrors: Kyle Kendrick is the real deal

Like a father watching his son ride a bike on his own for the first time, I am super proud of Kyle Kendrick and you should be, too. Or, as Jim Salisbury put it, "Kyle Kendrick has become a man." The ups and downs in Kendrick's career are like a bike ride through the Appalachian Trail: minor leaguer-turned major leaguer-turned playoff starter in 2007; major leaguer...

Game Chatter: Dillon Gee vs. Kyle Kendrick (4/26/13)

Kendrick Shuts Out Mets, Phils Win 4-0

The Big Piece can still dazzle us with his monster home runs. (PHOTO: AP) Kyle Kendrick pitched a gem and the offense was able to put up four runs as the Phillies topped the Mets Friday night at a atmosphere-less Citi Field. Michael Young and Ryan Howard drove in all the runs for the Phillies in the sixth inning, and the game featured just three umpires after home plate umpire Brian...

The Waiting Game: It’s not yet time for Wheeler or Montero

It looks like Jonathon Niese is expected to make his start on Sunday against the Phillies and the need for the Mets to promote a pitcher isn’t so pressing.  Add in that Jeremy Hefner pitched a relative gem on Thursday and the Mets look like a team that can wait for the All Star break to make their promotions.  Yet, every time there is an injury or a stumble by Dillon Gee or...

Kendrick’s Complete Game Shut-Out Ends Losing Streak

It’s a bird!  It’s a plane!  No!  It’s Super-KK!  What a relief for the Phillies after dropping 3 straight games to the Pirates, to see Kyle Kendrick pitch a gem against the Mets.  The 4-0 win came just in the nick of time, before this team spiraled way out of control. In the complete game shut-out, Kendrick allowed only 3 hits and a walk.  He kept his cool, even after...

Howard Blast Backs Up Kendrick's Gem

After three brutal losses to Pittsburgh, Kyle Kendrick threw a beauty tonight in Citi Field. He kept the Mets off balance the whole game, allowing just three hits and one walk. Really can't emphasize how important it was. The bullpen needed to rest up, the offense has been shaky and...

Kyle Kendrick, Dillon Gee Square Off In Series Opener In Queens

So the Phillies really lost 3 out of 4 to the Pirates....ouch. Honestly blame it on the bullpen because Cole Hamels, Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay ALL threw great games, but the bullpen either blew the lead or blew the game. Yesterday afternoon Cliff Lee tossed seven innings of three-run...

Gameday: Phillies (9-14) at Mets (10-10)

Philadelphia Phillies (9-14) at New York Mets (10-10) Kyle Kendrick (1-1, 3.28) vs. Dillon Gee (1-3, 5.95) TIME: 7:05, Citi Field TV: PHL 17 Weather: 60′s, partly cloudy Media: Twitter and Facebook The Phillies are coming off a disappointing series against the Pirates where they won a game started by Jonathan Pettibone, but lost the three started by Cole Hamels, Roy Halladay...

Phillies 4, Mets 0

Kyle Kendrick pitched the best game of his career, throwing a three-hitter and getting home-run help from Ryan Howard to lead the Philadelphia Phillies over the New York Mets 4-0 Friday night. The Phillies ended their three-game skid and dropped the Mets under .500 for the first time this season. Kendrick (2-1) scattered three singles and didn't permit a runner beyond second...

Phillies-Mets Preview

With Kyle Kendrick pitching well, the Philadelphia Phillies hope to start turning things around by continuing their recent success against an NL East rival. Then again, the starting staff hasn't been Philadelphia's problem lately. The Phillies try to avoid their second four-game losing streak in two weeks and claim their seventh win in eight games against the New York Mets...

Take The Sixth ... And Take Your Batting Order Too

Baxter. Tejada. Murphy, Wright. Duda. Buck. Davis. Valdespin. Gee. Marinated in Lefty/Righty goodness, this was probably the first lineup that I can remember that received close to universal praise on Twitter. If you're around Met fans a lot these days, you know that we don't universally praise anything. This lineup though was universally praised and anticipated before the...

Philadelphia Phillies: 2013 ERA for the MLB 5 at game 24

Most staffs typically have a significant drop-off after their 1 and 2, but the Philadelphia Phillies with Kyle Kendrick have a strong 4. How do the top west coast teams fare at the bottom of their rotation? TAL’S HANDY STATS WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: I will publish the 2013 ERA for both the NL East and the MLB 5 periodically. The number of games played by the Phillies is in the...

A four spot in the sixth inning is all the Phils need as they shutout the Mets, 4-0.

A complete game, three-hit shutout by Kyle Kendrick is supported by a four-run sixth inning, as the Phils take the first game of their three-games series from the Mets, 4-0. The Phils break up a 0-0 tied in the top of the sixth as, with runners on the corners, and with nobody out, Michael Young hits an RBI single, knocking in Jimmy Rollins, who had started the inning off with a single...
