Monkey with a Halo:
Dream Weaver could've been the key to the Angels getting a big series win and turning the season around, but instead, he ended up giving us all weeks worth of bad dreams.
Rangers 13, Angels 6
Nobody wants me to sit here and recap this disaster of a game. Even if you didn't watch it, the final score tells you everything you need to know. Once again, Texas took Weaver to the woodshed in a game that the Angels absolutely had to have. I'm not even going to pretend that this is just a poorly timed horrible performance for Weaver, he crapped the bed and the Rangers own him in Arlington. It is just that simple.
However, I'm also not about to start writing a eulogy for the Angels' season. It may not feel like it right now, but this team has been showing signs of life. They just ran into a buzzsaw in the Rangers. They are the best team in baseball. They are going to walk away with the AL West. But the Halos still have life beyond that. As I mentioned before the series started, the Angels have a slate of pretty soft opponents coming up over the next two weeks. If they take advantage, they can put themselves over .500 by the end of the month and right back into the Wild Card hunt.
Now, it would've been nice to come out of this series with the Halos feeling good about themselves instead of feeling like a red-headed stepchild, but there's nothing they can do about it now. Still, there is reason to dream of the Angels reaching the post-season. And really, dreaming is all we have after living through a nightmare game like tonight.
- RBI single or no, it is time to drop Pujols in the lineup. Actually, it was time a few weeks ago, but it is pretty evident that his homer last weekend isn't what he needed to snap out of this funk. With Mark Trumbo looking like he has evolved into a bona fide slugger, the least the Angels could do is flip them in the order until Pujols finally figures out what the hell is wrong with him.
- I'll say this in a more family-friendly way than I did on Twitter, but I fear that Wells getting a single and meaningless solo homer may have bought a few more weeks more of being an almost everyday player. This just has to stop. Just because Vernon can occasionally run into a pitch doesn't mean he is any good. There are only two people in this world that think Wells might someday become the player he was back in Toronto, Wells himself and, unfortunately, Mike Scioscia.
- Once again, the bullpen bites the Angels in the ass. After mounting something of a comeback in the seventh inning, I can't help but wonder what could've been had Pauley and Carpenter not combined to allow five runs. Eh, who am I kidding, six runs is this teams per game limit and we all know it.
I'm not sure what's worse, the way Weaver pitched or the way he reacted to pitching so poorly. He hulked out in the dugout after allowing the grand slam and then sang along to "Hit the Road Jack" as he got pulled the next inning. That's not just him being upset with his poor performance, he looked like he has gone over the edge in terms of frustration with getting his ass kicked by Texas all the time. Can't say that I totally blame him.
BEST OF MAXIM
ARLINGTON, Texas Jered Weaver was not auditioning for "American Idol," but as he walked off the mound in the fourth inning Sunday night, he sang along to his own exit music.
While the song "Hit the Road, Jack" played over the stadium public address system, Weaver could be seen mouthing the words to the Ray Charles hit.
"I was singing the song, 'Hit...
Los Angeles Angels rookie outfielder Mike Trout is the American League version of Bryce Harper, so how the heck did he fall to the 25th pick of the 2009 draft?
"You got me," says Trout's father, Jeff.
Call it anti-East Coast bias. Anti-New Jersey bias. Maybe even anti-Billy Rowell bias.
There is more to the story, much more, but what the heck. Let's start by...

Salt Lake Bees - The Salt Lake Bees have have struggled since the losses of Mike Trout, Alexi Amarista and Jorge Cantu. Overall, they are 18-19 on the season, good for 3rd place in the Pacific Coast League. Offensively, the Bees have been led by Andrew Romine, Kole Calhoun and the veteran Ryan Langerhans. Andrew...
The May 14th, 2012 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels ...
ARLINGTON, Texas -- In a season that veered off course early and still hasn't gone right, the Angels occasionally have shown glimpses of what they could be.
On good days, they find ways to get on base, move runners over and pressure their opponents with timely hits. On bad days, they seem lifeless and unable to do anything right.
Maybe, as Mark Trumbo said, it's an attitude...
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Torii Hunter was put on the restricted list on Monday following a report in Dallas that his 17-year-old son was arrested for alleged sexual assault, the Los Angeles Times reported. According to the Times, an NBC television affiliate in Dallas-Fort Worth reported that Darius McClinton-Hunter was among five Prosper High School students arrested for allegedly...
Ervin Santana (OAK, @SD)
After an atrocious April (0-5, 6.16 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 10 homers surrendered in five outings), Santana has considerably calmed down in May, submitting two straight quality starts with a 2.93 ERA in 15.1 innings of work. Oakland and San Diego are cellar dwellers in most offensive categories this season, giving Santana an opportunity to continue...
The attorney defending the son of Los Angeles Angels outfielder Torii Hunter in a sexual assault case says he has a taped telephone conversation in which the boy's 16-year-old accuser recants.
Todd Shapiro is the attorney for 17-year-old Darius McClinton-Hunter. He told reporters Thursday that a recording was made Wednesday of a conversation between the girl and a teenage friend...

The town of Prosper, Texas, issued a news release announcing 17-year-old Darius McClinton-Hunter of neighboring McKinney, Texas, was arrested Monday in a sexual assault case. The release said Prosper police made five arrests after a monthlong investigation of...
ARLINGTON, Texas The Los Angeles Angels decided to challenge the best hitter in baseball when they didn't have to. Already trailing by four runs in the fourth inning, Angels manager Mike Scioscia allowed his ace, Jered Weaver, to pitch to Josh Hamilton with one out and runners on second and third.
Weaver may have thrown a no-hitter earlier this month, but he had just given...
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Nelson Cruz hit his third career grand slam, Josh Hamilton drove in three runs and the Texas Rangers beat the Los Angeles Angels 13-6 on Sunday night to hand Jered Weaver his first loss.
The slam by Cruz capped a five-run third for the Rangers. Hamilton chased Weaver an inning later with a two-run double that made it 8-2.
Weaver (5-1), in his second start...
After their most recent road series, the Los Angeles Angels are probably looking forward to the chance to get back home, even for just a few days.
Given the way their next opponent has played in Anaheim lately, the Angels might have some trouble making their return a successful one.
The Oakland Athletics might also be a little healthier when they seek their seventh win in nine...
Perhaps you heard: El Hombre is El Stinko.
A month and a half into his first year playing for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Albert Pujols might as well be Mario Mendoza. The 240 million man has so far hit only one home run as he nears 150 at-bats. He's batting below .200 and slugging below .300. Among the not-so-illustrious names with better 2012 power numbers than Pujols...
