Jake Peavy was back today for his first assignment after the cracked rib. He looked good, was solid in his pitching but you could see that he was not totally comfortable out there and showed his annoyance when the defense made mistakes.Jose Quintana has the mound duties for the final game in the series. Have a great weekend. See you at The Cell Cricket

Red Sox rumors: Alex Rios, Jake Peavy, Michael Young

The Boston Red Sox enter the second half of the regular season sitting in first place in the American League East. While they’re looking down at all other teams in the East, their advantage in the standings hasn’t stopped them from exploring trade options to improve their club. Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox have scouted Chicago White Sox outfielder...

White Sox activate Peavy from DL

The pitching-starved Chicago White Sox activated right-handed pitcher Jake Peavy from the disabled list Friday and could be about a week away from getting right-handed set-up man Jesse Crain back as well. Peavy (6-4, 4.30) returns to the starting rotation Saturday against lefty Paul Maholm (9-8, 3.98) and the Atlanta Braves at U.S. Cellular Field. Peavy, 32, has been sidelined since...

Jake Peavy to rejoin White Sox rotation Saturday

Jake Peavy is set to rejoin the Chicago White Sox rotation on Saturday, against the Atlanta Braves according to the Chicago Sun Times. It will be Peavy’s first call back to action since June 4 when he pitched with a displaced rib and lasted 21/3 innings in Seattle against the Mariners. Peavy had one rehab start at Double-A Birmingham, giving up one run on five hits over five innings...

Pirates targeting White Sox stars?

The Pittsburgh Pirates find themselves in the unusual position of being buyers at the trade deadline, and they reportedly have their eyes on two White Sox players.

Rios benched for not hustling

White Sox manager Robin Ventura benched Alex Rios after he did not run hard enough to try to prevent a double play.

White Sox Rumors: GM's prefer Jake Peavy to Matt Garza; Peavy drawing plenty of interest

The names that are dominating the starting pitching trade market right now are Matt Garza, Bud Norris and Ervin Santana, but another pitcher right now that is available is drawing a healthy amount of interest and some in the league believe he is the most valuable of the bunch. White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy is drawing interest from the Giants, Red Sox, Nationals, Rockies and others...

Report: Red Sox Scouted Alex Rios, Michael Young in Past Week, Will Watch Jake Peavy Closely

The Red Sox and White Sox already consummated one trade this season. Perhaps another one won’t be too far behind. The Red Sox, who already acquired reliever Matt Thornton from the White Sox, scouted Chicago outfielder Alex Rios and will scout pitcher Jake Peavy closely over his next couple of starts, according to The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo. The Red Sox reportedly scouted...

Peavy Wins in Front of Scouts, But Rios Steals the Stage

With the 'second half' of the regular season getting underway on Friday night against the Atlanta Braves, it's time to over-analyze everything we can about the White Sox' trade candidates. On Saturday, Jake Peavy made his first start back from the disabled list with many teams' scouts in attendance. But it was Alex Rios, who bounced back from being benched...

Pirates rumors: Pittsburgh targeting Alex Rios and Alexei Ramirez

The Pittsburgh Pirates don't just want to have their first season above .500 in 20 years; they also want to make a serious playoff run. Although they are just one game back of the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central, given their recent history and the strength of the division, many still believe they'll finish third, behind the Cincinnati Reds. An offensive upgrade could...

Pirates Looking at Alex Rios; Might Be Looking at Alexei Ramirez

The Pittsburgh Pirates are looking at Alex Rios, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. He also adds that “people familiar with Pittsburgh’s thinking suggest they wouldn’t be surprised if the Pirates expand the talks to include Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez”. That’s similar to the trade idea Jim Bowden floated out there a week ago, although I don’t think the cost would...

Robin Ventura pulls Alex Rios from game for lack of hustle

White Sox outfielder Alex Rios found himself on the wrong side of the usually patient Robin Ventura on Friday night against the Braves. It all came down to Rios's apparent lack of hustle during the fifth inning -- a willful mistake that prompted Ventura to lift Rios from the game and replace him with Casper Wells in right. Here's how's Scott Merkin described...

Ramirez, Peavy boost trade hopes for White Sox

Red-hot right-hander Matt Garza was close to going to the Rangers in a sizable deal Friday before a snag set the sides back, and word now is that the Cubs are looking at other possible landing spots as well for Garza, who is 5-0 with a 1.24 ERA over his last six starts and presumably coveted in a very thin pitchers' market. While Garza, who pitches again Monday for the Cubs...

Welcome Home — Here Come The Braves

Welcome home to the Cell and here come the Atlanta Braves Hope everyone had a good All-Star Break. Congratulations to Chris Sale on getting the win in the All Star game. Rumor has it that Jake Peavy has returned and will be the starter for the game on Saturday. John Danks is on the mound for the game today. That rumor about has been confirmed, with a press release from the...

Trade Values: Alexei Ramirez

Last night we heard that the Pittsburgh Pirates were looking at Alex Rios, and also might consider Alexei Ramirez. I’ve already done a Trade Values article on Rios. That article included a brief estimate of the value of Ramirez, although that came from just glancing at his stats and contracts, rather than digging in deep and looking at him closer. With last night’s rumor, I decided...

Braves Look to Rebound Against Mets

The Braves really blew it in the Windy City. The Chicago White Sox (39-56) proved too much for the National League East division leaders over the weekend, despite a promising start to the series for Atlanta. Game one personified the White Sox season thus far. In the fifth inning in a tie game, Alex Rios [...]
