Pirates (2-4) at Giants (2-4)

4:35 PM EST–AT&T Park, San Francisco

Here is the MLB.com Gameday

No TV in Pittsburgh // Radio: 93.7

The Bucs will participate in another home opener today as the San Francisco Giants open up this afternoon by the bay. Hopefully this one goes a little better than the first two.

Today’s game isn’t on TV in Pittsburgh, because heaven forbid the end of a Pirates game interrupts an hour-long Penguins pregame show.

Lineup:

Today’s lineup in SF: Presley 7 Walker 4 McCutchen 8 McGehee 3 Jones 9 Barajas 2 Alvarez 5 Harrison 6 McDonald 1

Clint Hurdle continues to try and shake things up in an attempt to find a combination that works. I guess I can’t blame him, but I think I’d rather stick to the starters and hope they can find a groove.

Today’s starters…

James McDonald (0-0, 3.00) vs. Matt Cain (0-0, 7.50)

McDonald made a couple horrendous pitches in his first start and paid for them, but other than that he was pretty solid. Both Jeff Karstens and Erik Bedard pitched worse their second time out than they did in their first, so hopefully McDonald can stop that trend.

Ho hum…another top notch starter going against the Pirates. This is why it was a real bummer that they couldn’t do much yesterday, because they’re going back to facing a stud today. Cain pitched poorly in his first start this year, but is a top-shelf right handed starter – just look at his recent contract extension that makes him the highest paid right handed pitcher in baseball history.
