Philadelphia Phillies (10-14) at New York Mets (10-11) Jonathan Pettibone (0-0, 3.38) vs. Shaun Marcum (0-0, 0.00) TIME: 1:05, Citi Field TV: Fox Weather: 66, mostly sunny Media: Twitter and Facebook With last night’s victory, the Phillies have now won 7 of 8 games against the Mets, including four straight on the road. The 4-0 win displayed a lot of positives for the Phils, if only for a night. Kyle Kendrick dazzled in throwing a complete game shutout, while Ryan Howard showed a little power, something fans have been waiting for him to do. Howard may have an opportunity to continue his power display today, as he has gone 4-for-8 lifetime against Mets starter, Shaun Marcum. Three of those four hits have been home runs. Marcum is making his 2013 debut after spending time on the DL with a sore neck. Injuries have long been an issue for Marcum, who only started 21 games for the Brewers last year while plagued with an elbow injury. In five career starts against the Phillies, Marcum is 2-...

Philadelphia Phillies storyline: Young gun discovery

After 10 starts there will be a clearer picture for the Philadelphia Phillies regarding Jonathan Pettibone. Yes, there are plenty of previous examples to peruse for consideration. TAL’S HANDY CAPS WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: By design my articles represent a baseball man’s thinking, the view from the dugout and the GM’s box. Most fans do not consider the budget, prospects on the...

Phillies Look to Take Series Against the Mets

After a fairly nice debut from Jonathan Pettibone on Monday, the young hurler looks to build upon that this afternoon at Citi Field as the Phillies seek a much needed series win. After losing 3/4 to the Pirates, I'd even call a sweep essential right now. Facing Pettibone is Shaun...

Phils Mash Mets In Saturday Matinee

The Phillies offense had the right amount of zen against the Mets today. (PHOTO: AP) Behind the power of 12 hits, including back-to-back home runs, and stellar pitching from the bullpen, the Phillies slugged their way to an easy 9-4 victory over the Mets today. The win was their fifth straight at Citifield, and the first of rookie Jonathan Pettibone’s career. PASSABLE PETTIBONE...

Mets Demote Edgin To Double-A Binghamton To Make Room For Marcum

As I expected, the Mets have demoted Josh Edgin to Double-A Binghamton to clear a roster spot for Shaun Marcum. I even speculated that he should go to Binghamton which is where he ends up. We’ll see him again, I’m sure… Updated on 4/26 I got an interesting email from Kevin (K Maxx) this morning who asked, “if Terry Collins is so concerned about Josh Edging being overworked...

Pettiboned

"This exact lineup must never see the light of day ever again." -me, yesterday. "Go f**k yourself, blogger." -Terry Collins, practically. To be fair (which is what I like to do because I'm a Libra), the general can't show signs of weakness just because his lineup was shut down by Kyle Kendrick. So he went with it again on Saturday, and it worked...

Pettibone Earns First Career Win as Phillies Top Mets, 9-4.

Final: Phillies 9, Mets 4. WP: Jonathan Pettibone (1-0, 4.35 ERA) LP: Shaun Marcum (0-1, 6.75 ERA)  Pettibone, filling in for the injured John Lannan, has surely provided much needed excellence the Phillies needed out of their rotation.  He lasted five innings today en-route for his first career victory, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks. The offense was on fire...

Phillies Clobber Mets, Earn Series Win

After scoring a combined 10 runs in in four games against the Pirates earlier this week, the Phillies exploded for nine runs today against the Mets at Citi Field. They finished with 12 hits on the day, and had men on base in six innings of nine innings. Jonathan Pettibone, coming off a great major [...]

Mets Lose Third Straight After 9-4 Pasting By The Phils

The New York Mets lost their second straight game to the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 9-4 this afternoon at Citi Field. The loss drops them to 10-12 and they have lost eight of their last eleven games. Shaun Marcum (0-1, 6.75) made his Mets debut and lasted just four innings, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks. He tossed 71 pitches, 44 for strikes, and was charged...

Galvis, Howard Power Hamels to First Win, Sweep of Mets

Howard came up big in the clutch in a 5-1 Phils win to cap the sweep. Photo: Seth Wenig, AP On a day where Cole Hamels struggled with control, issuing six free passes, Hamels kept his composure to pick up his first win of 2013 in a 5-1 Phillies win. Hamels allowed only two hits to limit the damage of his free passes on a day where the Mets struck early on a David Wright RBI single...

Philadelphia Phillies Need to Begin Rebuilding Phase, Blow Up Roster Immediately

The Philadelphia Phillies are now 23 games into their season, more than one-eighth of the way through, and they stand at 9-14. This was a team that didn’t just need, but was virtually required to get off to a decent start to prove this roster, however aged, could still win. Instead, the team finds itself 5 games under .500 almost a month into the season. It is time to blow up the...

Gameday: Phillies (9-13) vs. Pirates (12-9)

Philadelphia Phillies (9-13) vs Pittsburgh Pirates (12-9) Cliff Lee (2-1, 2.83) vs. James McDonald (2-2, 4.12) TIME: 1:05, Citizens Bank Park TV: Comcast Sportsnet, home of Phillies Nation TV Weather: 64, sunny Media: Twitter and Facebook Last night was a total bummer.
