Philadelphia Phillies (24-27) at Boston Red Sox (32-20) Cliff Lee (5-2, 2.48) vs. Ryan Dempster (2-5, 4.69) TIME: 7:05, Fenway Park TV: Comcast Sportsnet Weather: 60s, partly cloudy Media: Twitter and Facebook If he truly is dealing with a knee issue, then why isn’t Ryan Howard the DH tonight? The lineup remains the same as in the opener of the series, when the Red Sox trounced the Phillies 9-3. Domonic Brown was named the National League’s Player of the week. In his last six games, Brown hit .348 with two home runs, a triple and two doubles to go along with seven RBIs. It’s great to see him finally living up to the hype, leading the team with 10 homers. I know that “on pace” means little, but 31 homers and 90 RBI is pretty solid for a guy that many people wanted out of town after just about 450 AB’s. Cliff Lee is truly the Phillies only hope. They’ll need a major shutdown performance from their ace tonight if they have any thoughts of winning. This Red Sox team can strike quickly, ...

Ryan Howard suffering from spin Slidis Unrecognitis Syndrome

Ryan Howard has reportedly been diagnosed with Slidis Unrecognitis Syndrome. SUS is a condition in which a baseball player is unable to recognize a slider and in serious cases removes the ability of a player to recognize the type or location of any pitch. Howard's SUS existed his entire life but remained dormant until the 2010 season.  Of course I’m kidding here, but the...

Lee gem, Papelbon save, sink BoSox

Cliff Lee pitched eight innings of four-hit ball and Jonathan Papelbon earned his first save at Fenway Park as a Red Sox opponent on Tuesday night, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-1 victory over Boston., http://juicedsportsblog.com/sports-news/news/lee-gem-papelbon-save-sink-bosox

Cliff Lee Turns in Vintage Performance, But Ryan Dempster’s Encouraging Start Shouldn’t Be Overlooked

Ryan Dempster became the Dempster of April again Tuesday night. Unfortunately for the Red Sox, Dempster was opposed by a rejuvenated Cliff Lee that appears to have completely put last year’s disappointing campaign behind him. Dempster was very solid after three straight subpar performances, allowing just two runs in a seven-inning start for the first time since April 15 and giving...

As Cliff Lee throw eight strong innings, the offense scores enough runs for the Phils to leave Boston with a series split, as they defeat the BoSox, 3-1.

Cliff Lee throws eight strong innings as the Phils leave Fenway Park with a split as they defeat the Red Sox, 3-1. The Phils took the lead in the top of the first as, with one man out, Michael Young hits a solo home run, his second home run of the season, as he snaps an 0-21 hitless streak, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead. The Red Sox tied the game up at one-all in their half of the...

Cliff Lee to the Sox?

Photo Courtesy of ESPN Could the Red Sox make a move for CLiff Lee? That is a possibility, according to WEEI, but only if a number of factors fall into place. I'll admit that the possibility appeals to me, but I wonder what we might have to give up. Jacoby Ellsbury would be a logical choice, since Jackie Bradley Jr. has been called up and he is clearly the future, so that might...

Phillies' Ryan Howard may need to rest injured left knee

Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard missed Sunday's series finale against the Washington Nationals due to an ailing left knee.  Phillies manager Charlie Manuel wasn't sure whether or not Howard would play against the Boston Red Sox on Monday. As reported by Andrew Simon of mlb.com, "A week ago, Howard received a cortisone injection in the knee, then...

Ryan Dempster Acknowledges Mistakes Made, Says His Pitching, Team Will Bounce Back (Video)

The Red Sox stumbled against the Phillies on Tuesday night at Fenway Park as former Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon closed out the ninth in 1-2-3 fashion. Sox starting pitcher Ryan Dempster didn’t have his best outing of the season, pitching seven innings and giving up two runs on six hits. The right-hander falls to 2-6 on the season, and acknowledged after the game that he struggled...

The Big Questions About the Big Piece

The Phillies have lost 3 of their last 4 games and there are still more questions about this team than there are answers. Perhaps the biggest question right now is about the Big Piece, Ryan Howard. Take a look at the timeline for Howard this past week and a half: Howard had a cortisone injection on May 19th; he was back in the line-up May 21st and feeling better. By May 23rd, he...

Jacoby Ellsbury Looks to Keep Rolling As Red Sox Take On Cliff Lee, Phillies

The Red Sox will technically go for a sweep on Tuesday night at a Fenway Park. Fresh off of pounding the Philadelphia Phillies in the second game of a two-game series Tuesday night in Boston. The Sox are hoping to get an effort similar to Monday night where they defeated Philly 9-3. The two teams will then head to Philadelphia for another two-game set on Wednesday and Thursday. The...

4 Real? Red Sox vs Phillies 5-28-13

Jan-Christian Sorensen Contributing Writer The Sox walked right up to the Cliff Tuesday night at Fenway, but couldn't bring themselves to jump over it. Phillies starter Cliff Lee kept the Red Sox bats silent for the better part of eight innings, scattering four hits and striking out eight while pacing Philadelphia to a 3-1 win over Boston. Here are the four at-bats that changed...

The Big Pitcher, Part 4: Down in the 'Demps

Jim Rogash/Getty Images Jan-Christian Sorensen Contributing Writer While he’s not nearly where the Nation or Red Sox pitching coach Juan Nieves might like him at this point in the season, Ryan Dempster showed some promising signs of shaking off a three-game slump this week against the Phillies. Coming into Tuesday’s game against Philadelphia, Dempster’s stats were grim...

The Cleveland Indians have announced that catcher Lou Marson will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Wednesday night with Double-A Akron. If there are no setbacks, his rehab assignment will be transferred to Triple-A Columbus on Friday. Marson, 26, has been limited to just three games and five total plate appearances with the Indians this season. He has spent time on the...
