Philadelphia Phillies (52-64) vs Washington Nationals (56-60) Kyle Kendrick (10-8, 4.36) vs Stephen Strasburg (5-9, 3.01) Time: 5:05, Nationals Park TV: PHL 17 Weather: 85, chance of storms Media: Twitter and Facebook Kyle Kendrick began the season red hot.  It was like he transformed into a completely different pitcher, but he has now returned to his old ways.  Kendrick has struggled since June, as he is 3-4 with a 6.93 ERA in his last seven starts (37.2 IP).  He’s coming off another poor start, where he allowed four runs in six innings against the Cubs. Don’t  let Stephen Strasburg’s record fool you.  He has nine losses, but in Philadelphia terms he would be victim to the “Cole Hamels/Cliff Lee syndrome” —  a lack of run support.   He’s been just as good, if not better, than he was last season before he was shut down.  His strikeout average has decreased, but averaging about a strikeout per inning is still pretty good. Darin Ruf's MLB Man Cave Interview

I was searching for something on Darin Ruf, since he's one of the few good things going for the Phillies right now, and I came across this video from last year. He seems like a levelheaded guy and I hope he can continue to improve defensively in the outfield, because the Phils need his bat in the lineup. Perhaps he secures a starting gig for next season, along with Revere and...

Losses Keep Piling Up For Phils

Cliff Lee gave the Phillies a quality start tonight. Why would that be enough? (Photo: AP) All the best metaphors and similes to describe a Phillies loss in which they blow an early lead have been exhausted over the course of this dreadful season. At this stage, you can only come out and say it: The Phillies were up 4-0 to start the third inning of tonight’s game. They’d end...

Gameday: Phillies (52-63) at Nationals (55-60)

Philadelphia Phillies (52-63) vs Washington Nationals (55-60)  Cliff Lee (10-5, 3.13) vs. Taylor Jordan (1-3, 3.76) Time: 7:05, Nationals Park TV: CSN, MLBN Weather: 81, chance of storms Media: Twitter and Facebook Prior to the start of the 2013 season, the Washington Nationals and Philadelphia Phillies were predicted by many to compete in the National League East; however...

Nats win on Strasburg's 1st career complete game

Stephen Strasburg struggled during pregame warmups and tweaked his groin in the second inning. Yet after nine innings, he was still on the mound for the first time in the majors. Strasburg pitched a four-hitter and struck out 10 in the first complete game of his career, Jayson Werth had his second straight three-hit game and the Washington Nationals completed a three-game sweep...

Washington Nationals pitcher Gio Gonzalez’s innocence is confirmed in Biogenesis scandal

Top Performance Last Night: Gio Gonzalez Readies A Pitch In The 5th Inning Of His CG In Houston Baseball is known, and has been for a very long time, to be America’s pastime. It’s the sport of our country: a hot dog, cold beer, and peanuts on a Sunday afternoon at the park. It symbolizes freedom, unity, and everything American. That all changed when greed started to sneak its...

Nats' Strasburg shuts down Phillies

Stephen Strasburg pitched a four-hitter and struck out 10 in the first complete game of his career, Jayson Werth had his second straight three-hit game and the Washington Nationals completed a three-game sweep with a 6-0 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday night. Strasburg (6-9) dominated the reeling Phillies for his first win since July 7 against San Diego. The Nationals...

Stephen Strasburg throws first career complete game

It has not been a great season for the Washington Nationals or ace pitcher Stephen Strasburg. However, on Sunday, against the Philadelphia Phillies, Strasburg and the Nationals looked like the best team in baseball. Strasburg turned in one of the most dominant performances of his young career going the distance in his 68th start for his first complete game. He needed just 99 pitches...

The Downslide Continues; Phillies Blanked by Nats 6-0

Since there were no good images from today's game, I figured Cliff Lee's disappointment would say it all. Assuming you had the same prediction as any other baseball fan for today's Phillies-Nationals matchup, you were correct. The Stephen Strausberg we've seen dominate teams across the league appeared today in Nationals...

Strasburg Throws First Complete Game In Shutout Of Phillies

If you blinked, you probably missed the slightest of smiles that flickered across Stephen Strasburg’s face as he stepped off the mound after the Washington Nationals’ (57-60) 6-0 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies (52-65). Strasburg had just closed the book on the first complete-game shutout of his career, and true to form, he hardly showed any emotion as 32 thousand...

Another Bullpen Meltdown, Another Loss

It was a fun second inning. The Phillies jumped all over Nationals pitcher Taylor Jordan, featuring a two run blast from Darin Ruf, a safety squeeze RBI from Cliff Lee, and the offense batted around. Unfortunately there were seven and a half innings left. Lee wasn't bad tonight. His command...

Mudcats shut out 2-0 by Scwartz and Nationals

The Potomac Nationals shut out the Carolina Mudcats with a 2-0 win at G. Richard Pfitzner Stadium Monday night. Left fielder Bryson Myles’ hitting streak was snapped with an 0-4 showing. His 23-game streak was a franchise record. Blake Schwartz (10-4) earned the win for the Nationals. He pitched seven innings with four hits and one strikeout. Nick Pasquale (4-7) took the loss...

A year removed from the Stephen Strasburg fiasco, it’s apparent Mike Rizzo cost the Washington Nationals a title

Losers of four consecutive contests, it’s unquestionable that Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo banged the pooch shelving flamethrower Stephen Strasburg in 2012. Although flourishing during a rare playoff run, Rizzo shutdown the 25-year-old Strasburg (5-9, 3.01ERA) last September following 159 1/3 innings of work. Wrongly forced to hang in the dugout like a bat cave...

Pirates sign Shoppach

The Pirates have agreed to terms with catcher Kelly Shoppach (SHAW-pick) on a minor league deal. Shoppach has been assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Giants-Nationals Preview

Gio Gonzalez and Madison Bumgarner pitched to a virtual stalemate the first time they opposed each other this year. With the San Francisco Giants continuing to struggle offensively, more pressure could be on Bumgarner the second time around. The two left-handers match up again as the Giants visit the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night. Both pitchers were impressive in Washington...
