Pirates (58-43) at Cubs (42-58)

8:05 PM EST–Wrigley Field, Chicago

Here is the MLB.com Gameday

TV: ROOT Sports

The Pirates are at the Friendly Confines tonight for the first time this season (it’s hard to believe they haven’t been there yet). We saw the Bucs drop two of three to the Cubs last week at PNC Park, and while that was disheartening, the Cubs have been playing much better ball of late. They are 9-6 since the break, 14-9 in July, and just followed up their series win over the Pirates with another series win over the Cardinals. This won’t be an easy week for the Bucs.

Lineups:

  • Pirates
  • Cubs

Tonight’s starters…

Erik Bedard (5-11, 4.32) vs. Justin Germano (0-1, 3.00)

Bedard was excellent in his last start, which was also against the Cubs. That was really the first time in a while he looked extremely sharp, and the Pirates need him to keep it up now that James McDonald seems to be faltering.

Germano has only pitched once for the Cubs since being acquired in the middle of the season, and that was in relief. He’s bounced around quite a bit and should offer a good chance for the Pirate bats to get hot.
