The Pirates and Cards kick off an absolutely enormous series this week at PNC. It goes without saying that this is the biggest series in PNC Park history (as has been the case a number of times this season), but this one is especially significant because the Pirates are battling the team they’re directly chasing for a playoff spot. St. Louis currently holds a two-game edge for the final wild-card berth.
The Bucs haven’t been playing well lately, but they’re still in a good position if they can manage to turn things around. Whether they will or not is anybody’s guess, but these are meaningful games and if the Pirates can find a way to win the series, people will all of a sudden be feeling a lot better about this team.
The Cardinals are 5-1 since the 19-inning game last Sunday. Three of those wins were against the Astros at home, but they also took 2 of 3 from the Reds on ...

THE HITS KEEP COMING
During Tuesday's Pirates-Cardinals game, Pirates elft fielder Jose Tabata hit a single to right field in the second inning. Cardinals right fielder Carlos Beltran came up throwing, and fired a laser to Yadier Molina at home plate. Josh Harrison flew into Molina like a missile...but Molina held on to the ball. Harrison's collision with Molina was completely un-necessary...
As September 1st approaches, the Pirates organization is currently in a position unlike they have seen in the past. The club sits eight games over .500 and three games back of St. Louis for the second Wild Card Spot. When looking at which players to bring up to join the club in Pittsburgh, instead of just bringing up prospects to take a look at them, they could still possibly be...
The Pirates have made some questionable roster moves during their playoff stretch. A lot of those moves seem as if the Pirates are afraid of playing younger players, and are more comfortable with veterans, even if the veterans aren’t putting up strong numbers.
Consider that the Pirates stuck with Kevin Correia up until the trade deadline, even though Jeff Locke, Justin Wilson,...

After winning their first World Series title in 1909, the Pirates could manage just a third place finish the following year. Led by the hitting of Honus Wagner, the managing and play of Fred Clarke, and a strong pitching staff, Pittsburgh still won 86 games against just 67 defeats. The offense that season was near the middle of the pack, finishing fourth with 655 runs scored. The...
St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny served as "bullpen catcher" during the middle of the ninth inning on Sunday. - (Photo credit: Ranken Jordan)
St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny is just a few years removed from playing behind the plate everyday throughout the grueling 162 game baseball season.
At 41 years of age, Matheny is still a pretty fit guy. The...
The Pirates needed a win tonight. They needed James McDonald to step up, and they needed the offense to step up. Both sides took that seriously. JMac pitched 7 shutout innings, and the Pirates’ 9 runs were highlighted by Pedro Alvarez’s 2 homeruns. JMac simply shut down the Cardinals lineup tonight. He gave up just [...]
The Cruddy Show was back at it on Friday night as the St. Louis Cardinals started their all important weekend series with the National League Central Division leading Cincinnati Reds.
Among the topics host Corey Rudd discussed with panelists Brad Bumpus and Mike "Big Red" Levin was Allen Craig.
The trio debated about where Craig should hit in the Cardinals very potent...
Matt Holliday hit a tiebreaking home run and Kyle Lohse won his eighth consecutive decision, leading the St. Louis Cardinals to a 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday night.
Holliday led off the sixth inning with his 24th homer, a drive to right field off A.J. Burnett that put St. Louis ahead for good at 3-2.
Lohse (13-2) pitched five innings before being lifted following...
CINCINNATI (AP) -- Matt Holliday had four hits and four RBIs, Adam Wainwright won his fifth consecutive start and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds 8-2 on Sunday.

Well helllloooo there Cardinals. Nice to meet you. Winning one run games? Coming from behind? Beating winning teams? After 5 months of playing opossum you've finally decided to come outside, did you? Nobody here is going to complain. That's for damn sure. Guess we just weren't expecting 3 of 4 from the Reds and Pirates on the road. I suppose we hoped for it, but definitely...
Man, oh man, oh man, they've really just gone and done it now, haven't they? Hasn't anyone told the Pittsburgh Pirates about what happens when Yadier Molina feels the slightest bit disrespected or even just SORT OF pissed off??? NO ONE??? Really? That seems unfair, but I'm not here to complain. Because if history has anything to say about it, ...
