This is a big week for the Pirates. Yes, they are chasing the Reds in the NL Central–and winning the division is, of course, the main goal for the regular season. But the next goal is to make the playoffs. The Bucs are currently in position for the second spot in the wild-card play-in game. They lead the Dodgers and Cardinals by 2.5 games for that spot. The Bucs play the Dodgers for four games this week, then hit the road to play the Cardinals this weekend.
Los Angeles is one of just four NL teams (Padres, Mets, Cardinals) with a winning record against the Pirates this year, by virtue of a sweep in April. The Dodgers improved at the deadline, grabbing Hanley Ramirez and Shane Victorino. I think they’re the new favorite to win the West, but the Giants are currently in front by a game. The Dodgers just might have promoted Yasiel Puig to Rancho Cucamonga. Here's a tweet from sp11ke (former minor-leaguer):
"#Dodgers Yasiel Puig is in the stands here at Rancho Cucamonga. I guess his 1.500 OPS in 9 AZL games was enough."
It makes sense. The Dodgers wouldn't just randomly have Puig attend a game in Rancho from Arizona, so it's a safe assumption...

Just some news and notes before the Bucs take on the Dodgers this week. It was announced that James McDonald will be moved back to Friday, and AJ Burnett will pitch on Thursday, for the getaway game against the Dodgers. This will give James another day to rest, and hopefully fix what is going wrong.
It’s important that the Pirates get him right before the end of the season...
