Pirates (40-35) at Cardinals (40-36) 8:15 PM EST–Busch Stadium, St. Louis Here is the MLB.com Gameday TV: ROOT Sports The Pirates are in St. Louis to finish out this road trip against the Cardinals. This figures to be an extremely tough series for the Bucs, at least to me. They won’t get to send Burnett or McDonald to the hill (although avoiding Burnett in St. Louis may be a good thing), and the Cardinals seem to have the Pirates’ number so far this season. The two teams have met in a series at PNC and a series at Busch, and the Cards took 2 of 3 in both. The Pirates are a half game ahead of St. Louis entering tonight, but the Cards may still be the team to beat in the division.  Their NL-best run differential of +69 indicates that their W-L record should be much better than it is. By comparison, the Pirates’ differential is currently -4. Oh, and it’s gong to be about a billion degrees for all three games. Tonight’s starters… Kevin Correia (3-6, 4.03) vs. Adam Wainwright (6-7, 4.32) I’m pretty terrified to see Correia against this lineup, but he has a tendency to shut pundits up and pitch OK when you least expect it, so maybe that’ll happen again tonight. Kevin is coming off of two pretty strong starts during the last homestand, so he has some momentum going into tonight. Wainwright was a mess to start the year, but has found a groove recently. The Pirates scored 4 earned runs off him in 7 innings on May 1st (but still lost), and only two teams have been able to match that since. He’s gone 7 innings in each of his last three starts, and the Bucco bats went cold after the first inning yesterday. Let’s hope they wake up again tonight. Cardinals vs. Correia: As you’d expect, some pretty strong numbers: PA AB H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS Matt Holliday 32 29 8 3 1 1 6 2 4 .276 .344 .552 .895 Yadier Molina 18 15 4 0 0 1 3 2 1 .267 .353 .467 .820 Skip Schumaker 18 16 7 2 0 0 1 2 2 .438 .500 .563 1.063 Rafael Furcal 14 13 3 0 0 0 0 1 4 .231 .286 .231 .516 Carlos Beltran 13 12 4 0 0 0 1 1 1 .333 .385 .333 .718 David Freese 7 7 1 0 0 0 0 0 3 .143 .143 .143 .286 Jon Jay 7 7 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 .286 .286 .286 .571 Daniel Descalso 5 4 2 1 0 0 1 1 0 .500 .600 .750 1.350 Allen Craig 3 3 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 .333 .333 .333 .667 Adam Wainwright 2 2 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 .500 .500 .500 1.000 Tyler Greene 1 1 1 1 0 0 1 0 0 1.000 1.000 2.000 3.000 Kyle Lohse 1 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 .000 .000 .000 .000 Total 121 110 34 7 1 2 13 9 16 .309 .367 .445 .812 Provided by Baseball-Reference.com: View Play Index Tool Used
