Photo: APThe Brewers picked up their 13th Cactus League win today, beating the Padres 10-7 in Peoria, AZ. The game was televised on FS Wisconsin, even if it wasn't much to watch: The game was a very typical spring training contest, featuring a lot of errors and long innings, and not very much actual excitement. However, there were some interesting individual performances today, so we have a full slate of notes: -- Chris Narveson started, going five innings and running into some trouble in his last couple frames. Narveson allowed seven runs (three earned) on seven hits, one homer, and two walks while striking out three. Narveson wasn't very sharp today, but he wasn't helped at all by his defense, which dropped two fly balls behind him. -- Mat Gamel continued to make the case that he really is in the best shape of his life, hitting two homeruns in three at-bats. His first homerun was a truly impressive blast, a 360 foot drive over the left field fence that went for...

Gamel ready to cement status as MLB slugger

Mat Gamel has seen sporadic action with the Brewers since 2008. But make no mistake: 2012 is his time. With Prince Fielder now in Detroit, Milwaukee's starting first base spot is Gamel's. And, the 26-year-old sounds ready to seize the moment. Saturday served as evidence, as Gamel clubbed a grand slam and a solo home run, as the Brewers beat a Padres split squad 10-7. ...

Brewers have full confidence in rotation

Most preseason predictions have the Milwaukee Brewers finishing second or third in the NL Central, perhaps penalizing the defending division champs a little too heavily for the loss of All-Star first baseman Prince Fielder. After all, the Brewers have perhaps fewer weak spots in their lineup than last year and -- most important -- one of the major leagues' best front-to-back...

Izturis brings intangibles to Brewers' infield

Cesar Izturis hasn't exactly been spraying the ball all over the field this spring, as his .173 exhibition batting average suggests. Yet, the 32-year-old infielder is spreading his wisdom around the Milwaukee Brewers' locker room, and there's value in that. "I made it to the big leagues when I was 21, and I'm 32 years old (now), you know," Izturis said...

Braun homers to lead Brewers over Dodgers

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Chris Capuano pitched six innings in his final preparation for his new spot as the Dodgers' No. 3 starter and caused a stir by throwing behind Ryan Braun in a Los Angeles split squad's 9-4 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said before the game starter Ted Lilly will start the season on the disabled list. Slowed by a stiff...

Alex Gonzalez and Carlos Gomez also homered for the Brewers. Gamel hit his slam off Padres starter Tim Stauffer and later connected against San Diego closer Huston Street. Stauffer allowed six earned runs and seven hits in five...

Brewer News For April Fool's Day

Hey guys, I have to apologize here. There's been quite a bit of big news this week that, for one reason or another, me and Andy haven't found the time to cover. So, we're going to do a quick roundup of what we missed (by the way, happy April 1st): -- The Brewers and Zack Greinke have agreed to a 5 year, $90M extension with an $19M option for 2018, as well as a clause...

Brewers Overcome Best Efforts of Former Teammates in -4 Win Over Dodgers

It looked bleak early on for Milwaukee but the Dodgers bullpen couldn't hold the Brewers bats down late in a 9-4 Spring Training win at Camelback Ranch this afternoon.  Chris Capuano and Jerry Hairston, Jr. - two names Brewers fans should be familiar with combined to stop any chance of a Brewers offensive outburst early on, but their efforts were for naught.  With the Brewers...
