PLAYERS: Gary Carter
TEAMS: New York Mets
Steiner Sports is auctioning off Gary Carter’s motorcycle (given to him by the Mets after he was elected to the Hall of Fame), the proceeds of which will all go to the Autism Project of Palm Beach County. Carter’s widow Sandy had donated the sleek, black bike to the Autism Project of Palm Beach County (APPBC), which will receive all the proceeds. The charity’s mission is to raise money to support two specialized charter schools in Palm Beach County.  C.J., the Carters’ grandson, attends Renaissance Learning Center, one of the charter schools.   (RLC) serves children who are on the Autism Spectrum ages 3 to 14 years old.  Twelve years ago RLC had only five students enrolled, today enrollment has grown to 102 with a waiting list. The 2004 V-Rod “100th Anniversary” model HD has 3,250 miles on its odometer, and is in pristine condition. Personally-owned accessories worn by Gary and Sandy will also be a part of this unique auction package, including leather jackets with “Kid” and “Sandy” embroidered inside, as well as helmets, boots, and gloves. The reserve has yet to be determined. For photographs of the 100 Anniversary VRod by Harley Davidson click below: http://www.hogs4sale.com/Inventory_V_Rod.htm

While Mets Are Shopping Dickey, They Are Negotiating A Longterm Deal With Wright

Danny Knobler of CBS Sports says while no new Mets contract is close to happening with David Wright, there’s still said to be some optimism that a deal with their best player will eventually happen. No trade talks involving Wright are on the horizon, and the Mets will instead continue to talk to Wright and his representatives exclusively. There’s always been a feeling something...

Mets Probably Won’t Trade Murphy, Not Very High On Valdespin

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, a Mets official told him that the team probably won’t trade Daniel Murphy because of the hole it would create at second base. The official also aid that prospect Jordany Valdespin is not viewed highly. You could tell the Mets went out of the way after the season ended to praise Murphy’s work at second base with both Sandy Alderson...

Report: Mets shopping Dickey

The Mets reportedly are unwilling to sign the 38-year-old knuckleballer to a contract extension, so the rumor is the team is seeking out a trade partner.

Report: Mets considering dealing Dickey

While New York Mets starter and National League Cy Young Award finalist R.A. Dickey expressed optimism regarding his discussions on a contract extension, the team may be gauging trade interest, according to multiple reports. Dickey, 38, went 20-6 with a 2.73 ERA last season, and struck out 230 batters. The Mets picked up his 2013 option for $5 million, and are discussing a long...

Alderson: With Bay Gone, Enhances Chance That Hairston Will Return

Adam Rubin posted some comments from Mets GM Sandy Alderson on his blog at ESPN New York. Alderson seemed to enjoy responding to most of the questions he was asked with plenty of humor and dripping with sarcasm. Honestly, I’m not a big fan of that and I don’t see other GMs doing it. I’d prefer a more direct and professional approach from our top executive, especially with the...

New York Mets won't trade Ike Davis, will listen on RA Dickey

The New York Mets have done a bit of an about-face in recent days regarding two of their more valuable trade assets. The team will not be trading first baseman Ike Davis, a decision likely spurred on by Lucas Duda's broken wrist, but will apparently be listening on NL Cy Young finalist RA Dickey. Keeping Davis around is something we've advocated since the end of the regular...

It only hurts when I breathe: Mets fan or pneumonia?

After being sick for nearly a month, my body finally crashed on Monday. I thought I contacted the flu but found out that I have pneumonia. I also found out that pneumonia is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. Fortunately for me, most deaths occur in children or the elderly. Sometimes it’s good to be middle-aged. In a weird kind of way, the symptoms and side...

Mets seeking to trade R.A. Dickey as contract talks stall

R.A. Dickey had been talking with the New York Mets about a contract extension. Now it appears the New York Mets are fielding offers for the 38-year-old  knuckleballer. It was assumed that the Mets would make an extension with Dickey a top priority this off season. Dickey is under contract for the 2013 season afor [...] [[ This is a content summary only. Assorted notes from the GM's meetings

INDIAN WELLS, Ca. – Assorted notes from the GM meetings:   *I already can hear the New York Mets’ spin on right-hander R.A. Dickey now – the tried and true “Greedy Ballplayer” theory.   Dickey, the Mets will say, wanted too much in a contract extension, so the team traded him rather than get suckered into a bad deal.   Such a portrayal simply would not be accurate...

Super-Agent Scott Boras Says Mets Are “In The Freezer”

The Mets and their wallets on are on ice A year ago at this time the Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers were in very similar situations. Both clubs were going through some difficult financial times, and we were hearing frequent rumblings about their respective owners having to sell their teams. Fast forward a year, and the Dodgers have been sold for $2 billion, and went on a spending...

R.A. Dickey: The Market’s Other Ace

R.A. Dickey was just recently announced as a finalist for the 2012 National League Cy Young Award. Depending on who you ask, he might well be the favorite to win. R.A. Dickey was just earlier Thursday reported to be the subject of trade conversations. Joel Sherman talked about it, Ken Rosenthal talked about it, and others have talked about it. Right now team executives are all hanging...

Your Morning Dump...where Bay would like to return to Boston.

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. A source tells Rob Bradford of WEEI.com (via Twitter) that Jason Bay would be very interested in returning to the Red Sox.  Earlier today, the Mets reached an agreement with the outfielder to make him...
