Charlie Saponara had a great post yesterday on his Fantasy Baseball 365 site about his love/hate relationship with Ricky Nolasco of the Miami Marlins. The read itself spurred some curiosity from this Fan about Nolasco, who has always seemed like a bit of an underachiever. It was great to have a little chat about Nolasco on Twitter with Saponara after reading his post. The post, the chat and looking at Nolasco's numbers reminded the Fan about another seeming underachiever, Matt Garza. So his numbers were checked as well. Amazingly, the two pitchers, both of whom threw for Florida-based clubs, have very similar comps. Before getting into the similarities, we should get their differences out of the way. Garza is a full year younger than Nolasco. Garza has a bigger fastball that's three MPH faster than Nolasco. Garza was the more touted prospect and was a former first round draft pick. Nolasco was drafted in the fourth round. Garza was drafted out of college and Nolasco right ...

Report: Matt Garza Talks 'Heating Up,' Red Sox and Yankees Among Teams Involved

The Red Sox have been linked to Matt Garza a few times throughout this offseason, and the rumors are intensifying. Talks regarding Garza are "heating up," according to David Kaplan of Comcast Sportsnet Chicago. The Red Sox, Yankees and Blue Jays are reportedly all involved when it comes to trying to land the Chicago right-hander. Kaplan notes, however, that the asking price...

Cubs and Blue Jays discuss Garza trade

According to several reports the Chicago Cubs and Toronto Blue Jays are discussing a trade that would send Matt Garza to Toronto for several prospects. Garza is attractive to the Blue Jays because he is under team control for another two seasons and has a track record of success in the AL East. The Cubs recent trade of Sean Marshall to the Reds may kick off a full scale rebuilding...

Garza Rumors Abound

What appear to be some pretty casual comments about Matt Garza by Nick Carardo have turned on the rumor machine. Naturally the Red Sox and Yankees are included, but I'd be surprised; they'd have had this done sooner.

Is Theo Epstein Playing the Blue Jays Against the Red Sox in the Race for Matt Garza?

I’ll be honest here, I don’t get the excitement over Matt Garza. Is it his stuff? Eh. I mean he’s got good stuff but he’s not as good as advertised. Is it his youth? Yeah probably. Is he worth 65 million over 4-5 years? No chance.  With the Toronto Blue Jays now being heavily rumored to be interested in Garza, the Boston Red Sox have no choice but to kick...

Hot Stove: Sox acquire Bailey, Jays discussing Garza

Here is the latest hot stove buzz circulating around MLB: The Red Sox acquired closer Andrew Bailey from the A’s for Josh Reddick and two prospects. The Cubs and Blue Jays are discussing a deal for RHP Matt Garza. Tim Lincecum and the Giants are not close to agreeing on a new contract. The Yankees signed LHP Hideki Okajima to a minor league contract. The Rockies don’...

Rumor Has It

I can't find the original "reports" this tweet is referencing, but some talk of trade talks involving Matt Garza and Marlon Byrd with Jacoby Ellsbury coming over to the Cubs (and I presume other pieces would be involved). The other teams mentioned in Garza talks include the Blue Jays with names like Deck McGuire, Kyle Drabek, Anthony Gose and Jake Marisnick being thrown...

Matt Garza, Hiroki Kuroda Among Available Pitchers Who Could Attract Red Sox

A year ago, the Red Sox rotation was firmly secure. With Jon Lester, John Lackey, Clay Buchholz, Josh Beckett and Daisuke Matsuzaka -- three of the five recorded at least 14 wins in 2010 -- headlining the staff, there was little apprehension. One year later, holes abound. After Matsuzaka and Lackey underwent Tommy John surgery, a procedure that will cost Lackey the season and Matsuzaka...
