Cannot give Terry Pendleton a pass on dust up with Johnson

I happened to be flipping through some links this morning and came upon this report of a dust up between Braves' coach, Terry Pendleton, and Chris Johnson. I found the replay to be quite disturbing. The problem for me here is that I have no idea of the history that preceded the incident. I do not know if Chris Johnson is a jerk or not. I do not know if he did throw his...

After Chris Johnson grounded out to Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins to end last night's game in Atlanta, the Braves third baseman got into a confrontation in Atlanta's dugout with first base coach Terry Pendleton. The official word is that the confrontation was caused when Johnson threw his helmet in frustration after the game, and that it inadvertently hit Pendleton....

The Atlanta Braves' Elliot Johnson makes a tremendous effort chasing a foul pop-up, sending him flying into the Phillies' dugout during the sixth inning of Sunday's game. The third baseman chased a foul ball right through an opening in the dugout and got nary a hand from his Philadelphia counterparts as he tumbled down the stairs. But after the scary-looking play,...

Terry Pendleton Accosts Chris Johnson In Braves Dugout

The Atlanta Braves may be feeling the playoff heat as tensions boiled over in the Braves dugout between coach Terry Pendleton and third baseman Chris Johnson. Johnson made the final out with a head first slide into first base in a 5-4 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. There is speculation that Johnson threw his helmet striking first base coach Terry Pendleton setting the scene for...

Three Cuts: Braves dominate Phils, miss out on top NL seed

ATLANTA The Atlanta Braves did all they could, beating the Phillies 12-5 in the final game of the regular season. Unfortunately for Atlanta, the St. Louis Cardinals also enjoyed a good afternoon, beating the Cubs 4-0 to finish the regular season one game ahead of Atlanta for the best record in the National League. That means the Braves lost home-field advantage up to the World Series...

Is Andrelton Simmons The Best Shortstop In Baseball?

Andrelton Simmons took over as the Atlanta Braves starting shortstop in July of 2012. Since then he has quickly earned a reputation as the best defensive shortstop in baseball. Jose Iglesias might challenge that reputation in years to come, but I’ll take Simmons. You don’t need a fielding metric to tell you that Simmons is a great defender, but I’ll make note of the numbers...

Braves wrap up the season, prepare for October

While the Braves were unable to secure home field advantage throughout the playoffs, the Braves 96-66 record secured the NL East and second seed going into the postseason. The Braves will have home field advantage against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS, the first game of which begins Thursday in Atlanta. Before the posteason gets underway, let’s look back at the 2013 season...

Braves Coach Terry Pendleton Grabbed, Shoved Atlanta's Chris Johnson in the Dugout Yesterday

Count Atlanta's Chris Johnson as the latest in a long list of morons who have slid head first into 1st base for the out. Place him on the short list of Braves' players who were then grabbed by the jersey by an out of line coach, Terry Pendleton. The Outside Corner reports: "The official word is that the confrontation was caused when Johnson threw his helmet in frustration...

He remained face down for a few seconds before returning to the dugout and flipping...

Three Cuts: Braves rally falls short against Phillies

ATLANTA -- It was close but sloppy. Needing a win on Saturday night against the Phillies to keep pace with the Cardinals -- who beat the Cubs earlier in the day -- for the best record in the National League, the Braves struggled for eight innings before finally falling one hit short in the ninth. The Phillies won 5-4 in a game that was, at turns, maddening and thrilling for the home...

Braves already playing the victim

The match up is set. All we can do now is patiently wait for Thursday to arrive. And the Braves are already starting with their mind games... The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's David O'Brien posted a piece this morning entitle, Favored or not, the Braves confident facing Dodgers. Now the title does not imply what the author is truly driving...

Media Breeds Ignorance: Freeman, McCann, Maholm Justified over Gomez

The Braves were wrong. Paul Maholm, Freddie Freeman and Brian McCann instigated Wednesday night’s brawl against the Milwaukee Brewers. All Carlos Gomez did was pimp a home run, no big deal, right? Wrong. This might be the opinion someone formed just by following major sports media outlets on social media. The online opinion seemed to [...]

Phillies Season Ends with Ugly Loss to Braves

The Phillies season ends at 73 wins, 89 losses after an ugly 12-5 defeat in the finale against the Atlanta Braves. It’s the most losses in a season since they hit 97 losses in 2000. On the opposite end, the Atlanta Braves, winners of the NL East, finish the year 96-66. On this day, the Phillies would be undone by the fact that their bullpen had to pitch the entire game again. Zach...
