Buster Posey hit a home run and drove in two runs to back Matt Cain's seven solid innings and the San Francisco Giants beat the Colorado Rockies 9-3 Saturday.
Cain (11-5) gave up two runs on seven hits in 7 1-3 innings, and added an RBI single, to win for the first time since July 15. He walked one and struck out six. Angel Pagan hit a two-run triple, and Marco Scutaro, Hunter Pence and Joaquin Arias also drove in runs for the Giants.
D.J. LeMahieu hit his first major league home run or the Rockies, who had won three of four.
Drew Pomeranz (1-7) gave up four runs on five hits over four innings to remain winless (0-4) over his last six starts. He struck out three and did not walk a batter.
Posey's 19th home run of the season, a two-run shot in the third that landed in the first row of the left field bleachers, gave the Giants a 4-0 lead and was his ninth since the All-Star Break, tied with Chase Headley for second most in the NL.
Cain carried a shutout into the sixth, when the Rockies loaded the bases with no outs. He pitched his way out of it, allowing one run on Rutledge's infield groundout.
LeMahieu hit Cain's first pitch of the eighth and Eric Young and Rutledge each singled one out later to end Cain's day.
Pagan and Arias each tripled, giving the Giants 38 on the season, two shy of the Rockies' major-league leading total. There have been 27 triples hit in AT&T Park.

Fast-forward to the eighth inning. Buster Posey is up. The bases are loaded, with one out. The Giants are down by one run. The game is essentially in Posey’s hands. The leverage index (LI) of the situation is 7.59, the second-highest it’s been for any Giants batter at any point this season. And Rafael Betancourt, who has held right-handed hitters to a .196 wOBA this season, is...
The San Francisco Giants are coming home tonight after a 5-3 road trip in Colorado and St. Louis. They will face the Rockies this weekend, and just swept them in Colorado to start off this past road trip. Let’s hope their winning ways over the Rockies continue at AT&T Park.
Pablo Sandoval is going to be back on the field tonight for the San Jose Giants. Sandoval will be...
GET IN, MARTY!
The most interesting thing for Giants fans during Friday Night’s 3-0 loss to the lowly Rockies was a bizarre watercraft outside the stadium in McCovey Cove.
A man with a boat/hovercraft in the shape of the DeLorean from the Back to the Future movies raced around McCovey cove in the fourth inning of the game.
Unfortunately, the driver lost control of the craft and crashed into some rocks.
The race for the Most Valuable Player is a lot like a singing contest. It doesn't really matter much how the song starts, but how it finishes. And while most agree that if the season were to end right now, a certain Mr. McCutchen of the Pirates would probably get the nod. The season is not over yet. With a little more than a month and a half to go, Buster Posey has more than...
A plaque commemorating Matt Cain's perfect game has been placed by the San Francisco Giants on a walkway outside the right field wall at AT&T Park.
Cain, the first Giants pitcher to throw a perfect game, was honored on Friday night in a pair of ceremonies before San Francisco hosted the Colorado Rockies.
The Giants brought in nearly two dozen members of Cain's family...
A couple days ago, Jon Heyman published an article noting that Melky Cabrera and the Giants will put aside contract talks until after the season is over; the article inevitably started up another wave of speculation and discussion on what kind of money Cabrera should and/or will receive this offseason. But oddly enough, I’m not concerned with that — at least for the time being...
SAN FRANCISCO -- Hunter Pence was acquired just before the trade deadline to bolster the San Francisco Giants' low-scoring offense at home. After going hitless in his first four at-bats on Sunday, he became the hero with one swing. Pence hit a three-run home run to left in the bottom of the eighth inning to help the Giants beat the Colorado Rockies 9-6 on Sunday afternoon....
To paraphrase Marty McFly from Back to the Future: "You made a hovercraft out of a DeLorean?"
Well, a man named Matthew Riese did, with some funding from Kickstarter, and it was on display in McCovey cove during Friday night's San Francisco Giants baseball game at AT&T Park against the Colorado Rockies
Seeing is believing, and based on this footage, the...
Hunter Pence hit a three-run homer during a five-run rally in the eighth inning that lifted the San Francisco Giants over the Colorado Rockies 9-6 on Sunday.
Buster Posey's sacrifice fly in the eighth tied it. Melky Cabrera, who had an RBI single in the comeback, drove in three runs.
Brandon Belt doubled twice and went 4 for 4 for the Giants.
Matt Belisle (3-4) took the loss...
Striving to hold their respective division leads, the San Francisco Giants and Washington Nationals can both use any wins they can get.
The Giants might get a boost Monday with All-Star third baseman Pablo Sandoval set to come off the disabled list before the opener of a three-game set against the visiting Nationals.
San Francisco (63-52) heads into this series holding a one-game...
The San Francisco Giants were able to get the win Sunday to secure the series win against the Rockies. The G-men have won 7 of their last 10 games. Buster Posey (.332 AVG ) had the biggest at bat of the game. Which resulted in a 10 pitch battle, and a sacrifice fly that tied the game in the bottom of the 8th inning. Hunter Pence followed that up with his first homer in a Giants...
The Rockies lost a predictable game on Saturday.Frankly, watching the Colorado Rockies play on Saturday afternoon was a waste of a weekend day.The matchup may have looked intriguing before the game started, and with the Rockies coming off of an impressive 3-0 victory on Friday night, seeing if this team could build on something good was reason enough to pay a little attention.Matt...
