It took 13 innings for the San Francisco Giants to lose 5-3 against their division rival San Diego Padres on Monday night.
Barry Zito struck out 8 through 5.2 innings of work at AT&T Park. He gave up the Padres’ first run after opposing pitcher Edinson Volquez started off the third inning with a double down the left field line.
The Giants came back in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI singles from Brandon Belt and Hector Sanchez, as well as a sacrifice fly from Joaquin Arias.
San Diego tied it up after a Jean Machi wild pitch and seventh inning rally. Five scoreless frames later, the Padres hit three straight singles in the 13th. The last of those came off the bat of tomorrow’s pitcher, Andrew Cashner, and it scored the go ahead run for San Diego. A walk with the bases loaded settled the final score of 5-3.
