The Giants made a little bit of a surprising roster move today, cutting reliever Sandy Rosario. On the day when the team had to tender contracts to their five arbitration-eligible players (Brandon Belt, Gregor Blanco, Joaquin Arias, Yusmeiro Petit, and Tony Abreu) in order to keep them, they chose instead to cut a non-arbitration player, letting Rosario become a free agent. In addition, the team cut outfielder Francisco Peguero (a much more expected move). The releasing of Peguero and Rosario opens up room on the 40-man roster for Ryan Vogelsong’s return when his contract is made official, and also for one of the two relievers that the team just signed: Erik Cordier, and Jose De Paula. Rosario – a 28-year old with four years of Major League experience – entered 43 games last year and had a very nice ERA of 3.02. But the other numbers confirm what the eyes suggest, which is that Rosario got a little lucky in getting such a low ERA. His WHIP last year was 1.392, a...
