Hunter Pence doubled home two runs with a slicing, broken-bat hit during a five-run third inning that chased Kyle Lohse, and the San Francisco Giants took a 7-0 lead over the St. Louis Cardinals through three innings in the decisive Game 7 of the NL championship series Monday night. Pablo Sandoval's run-scoring groundout in the first gave him an RBI in five straight games, matching a Giants postseason record. Home run king Barry Bonds set the mark in 2002. Matt Cain worked out of a jam behind a strong defensive effort and extended San Francisco's lead with a two-out single in the second. A Giants pitcher has driven in a run in three straight games. During that same span, St. Louis has scored one run as a team. Lohse left after he walked Buster Posey to load the bases with no outs in the third. Pence then connected on a pitch from reliever Joe Kelly that broke his bat. The ball hit his bat twice more creating an awkward spin that fooled shortstop Pete Kozma, who first brok...

Was Pence's bizarre hit legal?

Hunter Pence broke NLCS Game 7 open with a weird broken bat double, but should he have been ruled out on the play?

Should Hunter Pence's Double Have Counted?

The San Francisco Giants completed their 3-1 series comeback against the St. Louis Cardinals to reach the World Series for the second time in three years. A big reason that the Giants won Game 7 was Hunter Pence's bases clearing,  broken bat double in the five run third for San Francisco, but should the double have counted? According to MLB rules, Rule 6.05 states, "A...

Giants outfielder Hunter Pence hits ball three times on one swing, ends up with two-run double

A freaky thing happened in the bottom of the third inning of Monday night’s NLCS Game 7, as it appears as though Giants rightfielder Hunter Pence makes contact with the ball not once, not twice, but thrice on the same swing.  The bat shatters on initial contact, and the ball gets hit twice more on the follow through.  Because physics took over, the ball’s trajectory took a...

Hunter Pence hits ball three times in same swing (GIF)

They say that you’ll see something new in every baseball game.  In Game 7 of the National League Championship Series, Hunter Pence hit the ball three times in the same swing. SBNation provides this incredible slow-motion GIF.

Hunter Pence hit a ball three times with one swing and got a double for his efforts

Lohse preparing to move on from Cardinals

ST. LOUIS Kyle Lohse packed up his locker, shook some hands and said his goodbyes Tuesday afternoon in the Cardinals clubhouse at Busch Stadium. But he had trouble walking out the door. The pitcher almost certainly won't be back with the Cardinals next season. Set to cash in on a big payday in the free agent market this winter, the club likely will go with one of their younger...

After stunning NLCS exit, Cards try to regroup

ST. LOUIS (AP) Kyle Lohse got to bed at 5:30 a.m. after the St. Louis Cardinals' flight following a most unpleasant end to the NL championship series against the San Francisco Giants. Fatigue only added to the aftershock of a spectacular nosedive as players cleaned out their lockers Tuesday at an empty stadium still adorned with bunting. The pitcher's mound and home plate...

World Series gets awfully hairy with wild beards

This is going to be a very hairy World Series. Giants outfielder Hunter Pence is looking seriously scraggly. Same goes for teammate Sergio Romo, whose facial fuzz has its own Twitter account. Tigers slugger Prince Fielder goes for a double - dreadlocks and an overgrown beard. And not to forget injured San Francisco closer Brian Wilson. His dyed, jet-black thicket inspired a '...

Giants advance to World Series to play Tigers

I thought this game would be over by the 5th inning. Boy, I was wrong. It was over by the 3rd inning in a 9-0 Giants win. I figured the Cardinals would stay cold and the Giants would continue to get clutch hits, or the other way around. The former. Not the latter. Cardinals’ starter Kyle Loshe loaded the bases, when Hunter Pence’s broken bat double scored two, then a fielding...

Daily Friar 10.22.12

The Giants just will not go away! The Cardinals were up 3-1 at one point in this series, but ever since the series has gone back to San Francisco they Giants have been unstoppable. They won yet again last night to even up the series 3-3 and force game seven tonight. Baseball fans are in for a treat as Matt Cain will face Kyle Lohse. It should be a great game if both pitchers are...

NL Championship Series Game Seven: Giants 9, Cardinals 0

The San Francisco Giants beat the St Louis Cardinals 9-0 in game seven of the NLCS, winning the series four games to three. The Giants jumped all over Kyle Lohse early, knocking him out of the game in the third inning after the Cardinals starting tallied just six outs for the game. A Pablo Sandoval groundout in the first inning scored Angel Pagan to make the game 1-0, and in...
