Chris Dominguez, normally a third baseman, snagged two very impressive, over-the-shoulder catches playing first base Saturday. The San Francisco Giants made nine more spring cuts this morning, according to a tweet from Andrew Baggarly at Comcast SportsNet.

They have reassigned infielders Chris Dominguez and Nick Noonan, outfielder Juan Perez, catcher Jackson Williams, and pitchers Justin FitzgeraldMitch Lively, and Matt Yourkin.

They also optioned two players from the 40-man roster to Triple-A Fresno: pitcher Hector Correa and speedy outfielder Tyler Graham.

As a note of reference, non-roster invitees get reassigned to the Giants’ minor-league camp, while players on the 40-man roster get optioned to a specific minor-league team.

The latest round of cuts leaves 43 players in camp, 10 of whom are non-roster invitees. You can view my <a title="22gigantes.com: "Non-roster invitees"" href="http://22gigantes.com/front-office/roster/non-roster-invitees/" target="_blank">updated non-roster invitees list here.

(Evidently, Perez will leave after today’s game since he is penciled in as the starting right fielder in this afternoon’s game against the Padres.)

I hope you enjoyed reading "Giants make 9 more cuts, including Dominguez and Graham." I'm interested in your opinion on this article. Why not leave a comment at 22gigantes.com?

SF Giants Rumors: Sanchez Still Not Ready, Stewart Or Whiteside Could Be Traded

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that manager Bruce Bochy says it’s possible that Freddy Sanchez might not be ready for the San Francisco Giants Opener on April 6. “We’re down to two weeks, and he hasn’t gotten out there yet. We’re still optimistic that we’ll get him out there, but each day that goes by the possibility grows a little bit that he’s...

Predicting the Giants’ 25-man roster…again

Opening Day is just 18 days away (April 6). Based on spring training battles, injuries, and straight-up performance, I have revised my original 25-man roster projections from last month. I originally had Chris Stewart beating out Eli Whiteside and Hector Sanchez for the backup catcher spot. Now I’ve flip-flopped Stewy and Whitey, mainly because Eli has flat-out kicked Stewart...

Giants 7, A’s 2

Ryan Theriot has some pretty big guns. And today he got a chance to prove they’re used for more than just good looks. With a runner on, Theriot crushed a 3-2 slider from A’s starter Tom Millone for his first spring homer and the San Francisco Giants went on to beat Oakland, 7-2 at Scottsdale Stadium. Theriot stood and admired his homer for a second before starting his home run...

What is Sergio Romo?

In 2011, Giants fans saw Sergio Romo put up one of the most impressive relief efforts in recent memory. In 2011, the 28th round draft pick pitched in 65 games, allowing just eight earned runs and 34 baserunners in 48 innings. He finished the year with 1.50 ERA and 0.708 WHIP, and even pitched a reliever’s perfect game: between July 6 and August 6, Romo pitched ten perfect innings...

Spring Small Sample Freak Out

One of the things that has made Brandon Belt a special prospect compared to others that the Giants have had come through their system is that he has excellent plate discipline. Over his minor league career he has consistently posted walk rates north of 15 percent and over his multiple stints in the Majors last year posted a walk rate above 9 percent. The Giants coaching...

2012 MLB Team Preview: San Francisco Giants

San Francisco Giants logo. Coming into 2011 the San Francisco Giants were the World Series Champions, but just as I predicted defending their title proved to be too much for this self-proclaimed band of misfits. One Showtime reality show later and a 86-76 record, the Giants embarrassingly missed the playoffs in 2011. The party was over for San Francisco as nobody cared about last...

Brian Sabean has no excuse not to lock up Matt Cain long-term

San Francisco Giants’ pitcher Matt Cain celebrates after winning the 2010 World Series after defeating the Texas Rangers 3-1 in game 5 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas on November 1, 2010. The Giants won the series 4 games to 1. UPI/Kevin Dietsch “But he won the Giants a World Series.” That’s the response I get whenever I criticize San Francisco Giants general...

Giants 3, Dodgers 3

Giants manager Bruce Bochy might need a little luck of the Irish soon. In the next two-and-a-half weeks, he’ll have to decide who will snag the team’s final Opening Day roster spot. And there are two guys making a serious case for Opening Day honors: Gregor Blanco and Brandon Belt. Belt smashed <a title="VIDEO: "Belt's two-run shot"" href="http...

Biggest Injury Issue Is With Sanchez

The Giants had three major injury concerns entering spring training. While catcher Buster Posey and closer Brian Wilson have made positive strides toward being ready on opening day, second baseman Freddy Sanchez hasn't been so fortunate.

SF Giants Final 2012 Roster Just Got Clearer

The final player picks to make the San Francisco Giants' roster out of Spring Training just shifted into sharper focus.  Jayson Stark of ESPN, via MLB Trade Rumors, reported that the San Francisco Giants are openly shopping infielders Ryan Theriot and Mike Fontenot to potential buyers. Theriot was signed for $1.32m in the off-season and Fontenot was extended to the tune of...

Gregor? Isn’t That A Bond Villain?

I honestly don’t know what to say about Gregor Blanco.  Out of nowhere, literally.  And at the moment, he’s playing Angel Pagan right out of the starting center field job. And, honestly, I could not find it listed ANYWHERE who the Kansas City Royals named as the player they got back from the Washington Nationals.  Not even in the team transaction lists on MLB.com.  Even...

Giants 7, Athletics 2

Tim Lincecum pitched six effective innings, Pablo Sandoval homered and the San Francisco Giants beat the Oakland Athletics 7-2 in a split-squad game on Saturday. Ryan Theriot and Angel Pagan also connected for San Francisco. Lincecum allowed five extra-base hits and six overall, but limited the A's to just one run. The ace right-hander struck out four and walked none in the...

Padres 5, Giants 1

Yasmani Grandal roped an RBI double and scored on a line drive single by Matt Clark and the San Diego Padres scored five runs in the 7th and 8th innings this afternoon to beat the San Francisco Giants, 5-1 at a rain-soaked Scottsdale Stadium. [box score] Giants starter Madison Bumgarner put up goose eggs through his five innings of work, scattering four hits and striking out two...

San Francisco Next Stop on Dynamo Road Trip

The next stop on the season opening road trip for the Dynamo is San Francisco, California. I know what you’re thinking, “San Francisco doesn’t have an MLS team.” You’re right but the San Jose Earthquakes are hosting a doubleheader at AT&T Park, home of Major League Baseball’s San Francisco Giants. The Dynamo and Earthquakes are the first match of the doubleheader...

Giants host Padres today

Despite wet conditions in the Valley of the Sun, the San Francisco Giants (11-4-3) will face a San Diego Padres (8-8) split squad today at Scottsdale Stadium. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. (PT). Left-hander Madison Bumgarner (0-1, 3.72) goes up against righty Edinson Volquez (0-0, 5.40). Volquez was part of the trade in December that sent Mat Latos to Cincinnati. The game...
